Been umming and aahing about this deal for the SGII; £150 phone, £30pm, £30 quidco, 400mins 1000 texts 1gb data, 12mnth contract, Talk Mobile.

For £90 less upfront fee you can get the exact same deal but with a Sensation. I'm a complete Smartphone noob so either phone will be amazing to me i'm sure, but what would you do?

Thanks

Probably not, no.

I've got a SGS2 but it was only £99 on the same TM contract you speak of.. in fact at the time of purchase the Sensation was £150!

Get an Iphone. Easier to use and far better build quality.

He didn't mention an iPhone & he certainly won't be getting an iPhone for the prices of the SGS2 & Sensation. Build quality can also to be questioned.

Anyhow both phones are about the same really. Both have minus points & plus points.

Personally I'd pop into a store & see how they both feel for you & then decide on it from there. I got the SGS2 cause I was too eager to get a new phone & didn't want to wait for the Sensation in the end. Glad I did though I do really like it now.

In what way is an iPhone easier to use? I've owned the 3G/3GS/HTC Desire/Galaxy SII and I've not found any to be complex in any way

Some guy in our office who's in his 40's bought a Galaxy SII two months ago and it was his first smart phone. His previous phone was a Nokia that played snake and didn't even have a colour screen and he's getting on with it just fine. We were all down the pub tonight with a group of colleagues, some of which were going to the Oxford dogs and he was telling someone else how he doesn't know how he went for so long without such a phone.

Now the iPhone vs Galaxy SII argument has been done to death and there's definitely benefits and down falls to both phones, but coming into a thread and recommending an iPhone when it's not one of the choices with your reasoning being vague, unproven and questionable opinions, is just making you look a tad silly.

In the wrong forum bud!

Apple section here:

And don't let the door hit you on the way out ;)

Anyway, personally I think yes for £90 it diff is worth it!

- Much better screen overall for colours, battery life, view abililty in sunlight, the only advantage of the sensation is a higher res screen, which is better for browsing.

- Better processor, GPU and more RAM

- A LOT more internal storage

- touchwiz is much better overall IMO, although sense is more pretty, main reason for touchwiz is that it has built in codecs so playing some HD films is very smooth and really no need to do any converting etc. and the most important thing is that the entire mobile/UI is hardware accelerated, everything is super smooth, virtually no lag and you diff notice it when web browsing compared to the sensation for scrolling

- better camera/video recording especially in low lit areas

- better build quality

- better battery life

- iirc the sound is better on the GS 2?

The only advantages of the sensation really, is the screen res, the mobile feels like a more "premium device", sense is a nicer UI in terms of looks and some functions however very bloated and takes up a fair bit of RAM.

I'd pay the extra, you're likely to have a more favourable experience with the SGS2 and it's a really well thought out phone.

The lack of any decent amount of onboard memory on the Sensation put me off it. I know you can get a Micro SD card for it relatively cheaply now (if the network doesn't supply you on in the first place) but it's the principle really.

The SII is slightly superior in most departments...but given you are a Smartphone noob i would advise the Sensation as you will still love it and you get £90 to spend on booze, fags and mags.

I got the Sensation over the SG2 because it feels better built (Not saying the SG2 is bad..) and I hate touchwiz (I had the Galaxy S for 1.5 years). HTC sense is much better and I don't notice any slowdowns.

Yes, the SG2 cpu/gpu is slightly better, but the Sensation is plenty fast enough for me.

You can also get an improved battery for the Sensation for £11 so that shouldn't be taken into account as a negative.

"Better build quality"...I don't get why people use this for iPhones, they break so easily

Apple keep making things out of stuff that is not entirely durable.

Glass cases that can shatter, shiny aluminium backs that scratch within seconds of getting them out of the box (iPod touch) and laptop cases that dent quite easily.Or paint that flakes (Ti powerbook).

I happen to like plastic :p.

Wait, sensation battery life is worse than sgs2? I didn't think that was possible:o Get the sgs2.

Yup, pretty much all the stock sense android HTC devices suck for battery life and with the sensations higher res screen, it doesn't help matters much.

The GS 2 is one of the best android mobiles to date for battery life (now that the problems are fixed with the hubs or wifi thing or whatever it was for the first month that was causing bad battery drain).

Thanks for all the comments chaps, i'll give myself the weekend to think on a bit more and i'll phone Vodafone to see if they want to offer me a better deal to upgrade (although i very much doubt it).

nvm

OP how did you get that deal if you don't mind?

You should be able to find both deals on e2save.com and/or mobiles.co.uk. I found them initially through HUKD.

Had both and I would get the GS2 much better phone all round than the sensation and forget the touchwizz posts above there are plenty of nice launchers out, launcher pro, adw, go launcher, spb 3d ....

These I even used when I had a htc phone in the past as I hated sense ui.
