Might be heading to linkoping with work.

Has anyone been? What should I do whilst there? Is the food nice? Don't want to eat any of that fermented herring muck!

Sweden is great I've been a couple of times, always found people very friendly. Nearly everyone speaks English as well. Alcohol is funny, when I went (which was a while back now) you could only buy spirits in government controlled outlets.

I've been to Sweden, but nowhere near where you're going I was in Malmo.

The people were nice and friendly most spoke English.
The food depends on what places you go to. If you're not very adventurous you can get burgers, steak and other normal pub grub type things, or you can get things like elk meatballs.

If you like a nice cup of tea, then take some teabags with you.

I just moved to Malmo last Friday with work so I can't really offer much advice yet, but what decoy mentions about food is pretty much bang on. They also seem to really like kebab here in Malmo atleast!

System Bolaget!

I did a lot of work in Gothenburg around this time last year, August to March time. The city itself is nice though quite small in terms of places to visit. Big wide streets, similar to those in Brussells and other major European cities, basically the opposite of London!

Be warned, beer and food are quite pricey. Though if you stay away from the tourist traps, you will find some good deals...cheaper then other places :)

I have been told Stockholm is the place to go and explore. A lot of small islands all linked together with bridges. A little bit more expensive then the rest of Sweden as you would expect but heard nothing but good things.

The women alone should be enough to make you want to be there.

Seriously, Sweden and Norway have the most beautiful women I've ever seen - I used to date a Norwegian girl and she was awesome. What's more they are super feminine and more traditional than British girls in terms of that most of them seem to like to bake, etc. They're also a lot less uninhibited in a crucial area but without being slutty about it.

If I were you I'd go there, marry a hot Swede girl and never return.

Been to Sweden once in Malmo, you can get pretty much similar food to the UK if you look for it. Although I was spoilt for choice there since there was a big international festival going on for the week I was there so had food from all around the world :)

Been a three times now, once flew into Gothenburg and drove to Mariannelund in a V70 with white snow compacted roads and studded tyres, stayed in a fishing lodge in the most silent pine forest, we visited Linkoping, second time we stayed in Gothenburg went to Mariannelund then visited Vastervik, third we flew to EasyJet Stockholm which is about 90km south and back to Mariannelund.

I really like Sweden but I can imagine it getting quite dull, Friday night in Mariannelund, everything was shut by 9 no where to have a beer, Sundays are desolate, it's so different to the UK.

I've been twice now, to Nacka and Stockholm and my general opinions are:

- Everything is expensive
- Locals are very nice
- Locals speak English better than most English people
- Food its really hit or miss, depending on where you go in terms of quality

Spot on.... I used to go there a lot with work....

A very pretty country.... moreso than I was expecting. People are fairly friendly (I find the Swedes slightly egotistical/ignorant work wise.... they don't listen!)... Out and about though I've had some good evenings in Stockholm.

From my experience - it is quite an expensive

I was told by colleagues that as a country they had severe alcoholism problems a while ago, and so they deter it by pricing the problem away. Thats also why you can only buy spirits in Gov. controlled outlets!

I've been to Stockholm twice:

-Quite a pretty city, good blend of architecture, water, and greenery
-People who serve you food speak better English than people who work in catering in the UK
-Eating out / drinking is expensive, the equivalent of a UK high st chain restaurant where you might expect to pay say £8-11 for a main course and £15 for a bottle of wine will be more like £15 for the food and £25 for the wine
-Plenty of tasty blondes about if you go to the right places, supposedly they find British men exotic although I'm married so I wouldn't know.

As English is a secondary language to most Swedish people women often like to engage brits in conversation to guage upon how well their English is.

Of course I was more than happy to oblige...

+1 good summary

I went to Stockholm for a long weekend a couple of weeks ago. post above is very accurate.

- Most things are super expensive e.g. average price of a beer (bottle or pint) is between £5.80 and £8. I paid £3 for a can of sprite in a little sandwich place. I went for 2 nights/ 3 days and it cost me £280 in spending money and £260 for one of the cheapest 3* hotels I could find. So £540 for 2 nights! All I really ate was steak and chips on the first night and a £10 pizza on the second, the rest was mostly booze and a few snacks.

- The Swedish people are among the nicest people I've met in ANY country that I have been to.

- Woman can be amazingly hot.

- They all speak very good English and don't have a problem in speaking it to you.

- In my opinion the night-life is pretty poor. I went primarily for a lads holiday and this side of things let me down a bit. Music in most nightclubs is terrible Euro-techno-house **** and because everything is so expensive nobody goes out till super late (about 12) then they stay out till about 3am but they all just seem very sensible and sober...not a bad thing in a society I know :p But that sort of vibe just isn't for me....I much prefer the absolute crazy and random nightlife of places like Berlin!

- I know your going to a different city but I'm sure it will be the same as Stockholm in that the city itself is beautiful. Great historical architecture that's perfectly kept and the streets are very clean and safe.
