Hi Folks,

My girlfriend has purchased a new car stereo to replace an old Phillips tape player. I'm wondering how to get the old stereo out. Its an old D reg Peugeot 205 and I suspect its the original stereo that came with the car.

We have all the necessary connectors and converters, I'm literally just wondering how to get the old machine out.

thanks in advance

Ian

think it uses the U bracket type of key, you can find them in halfords or use 4 allen keys of roughly the right size to pop the clips that hold it in.

2 holes each end of the facia, might be covered by small covers.

Do this.

Put your hand in the tape slot, bend your fingers to get a grip, then pull like a horse of a man, simples and no money spent.

Don't do this.

If old/aging/rubbish/broken manafacturers cage gives you grief, I can fully recommend blunt style table knives rammed down the side of the unit to disengage the radio, I however take no responsibility for the carnage that ensues...

Also, dont use your hand - the tape innards can be sharp - ram the claw end of a hammer in the tape hole then pull :D

Yeah brute force and ignorance is completely unlikely to damage any brittle aging plastic :p

/shrug, done it on a Proton Persona (re-badged Mitsubishi Lancer), 3x Honda Prelude, 2x Toyota Supra. It just bends the tape players cage sticky out bits back and comes out. Then again this is a French car... :P

Did this on a friends 1litre saxo as well, brute force attack until it budged. Didnt break anything just bent the cage.

A wire coathanger can be cut into 4 inch rods which will be perfect for removing car radios of that age.

I got the old stereo out no problem.

The wiring is a nightmare though, the car doesn't have the standard connector so I've got to work out wires from the car go on the iso adapter.

Help!

been to halfords, the connector isn't available. Whoever owned the car previously has bodged the wiring. Going to get a mate to install it, he knows what he is doing

Fitted it, went round a mates who gave me a basic idea of how its done and then rewired it myself.. had to bodge the loom using junction connectors but its working sweet now.

Any electrical fires we'll just buy another pug 205 not like they are expensive nowadays (1.360 CC GR)
