Steve Jobs vowed on the demise of android!

I'm surpised Ford are not sueing General Motors, after all, they both seem to make products with the same look and feel including copying key features like 4 wheels and a steering wheel. And seats.

It's inevitable that smartphones will look similar.

Did Ford have a patent for 4 wheeled motor vehicles?

About the only thing that native Android rips off iOS is the fact that it's a touch-friendly operating system. Jobs was just narked that someone dared to compete (and succeed).

This pretty much sums up my view on the whole situation.

You got an apple because of a dock? You clearly didnt bother looking :p

Correct I didn't bother looking I didn't have to look ;) if third party hardware is everywhere then i'll generally buy the related product as the OS's are very similar...

fish you do realise the mobiles and tablets aren't even by the same brand for before and after? :p

And I still fail to see what is wrong, ok so what they have icons, how else can you do something different, and normal mobiles before the iphone have had icons in the menu.

They are flat, rectangle/square shape with a large screen, do we expect other brands to do circle shape designs or something stupid?

Do we expect other brands to just keep to the good old method using hard buttons and a small screen?

These are generic things that can not be done differently at all really.

The only mobile that looks very similar to the iphone is the GS 1 and GS 2 and that is it.

No, as it seems common sense has prevailed.

You shouldn't be able to patent vague and general things.

If you have a touch screen phone it's virtually impossible to have a completely different look and feel to other devices. Heck, its a touch screen phone, there is only so much you can do with look and feel!

This,

Apple are just scared at the sheer speed of Google's/Android's growth and popularity.

Apple had no reason not to know that Google had purchased Android in 2005, and then announced they were going to release it as an OS in 2007, it was 2 years later before Schmidt left the board (not sure if by his own will or not)

It was inevitable that the Google would form and lead the Open Handset Alliance against the likes of Apple, Nokia, Ericson and the rest with an open source standard for mobile platforms. The world stood up and said no one is going to corner the mobile market, we are coming in to get our slice of the cake and here we are today with a choice. Jobs was deluded if he thought he could rule the world and of course his was bitter about the US/World market share which has made Apple second best:

Have a read about Android:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_(operating_system)#Open_Handset_Alliance

And the Open Handset Alliance:

At the end of the day Apple can blow as much money as they like on Android but it won't stop the market or our choice of mobile platforms. It will most certainly be unable to stop technological change in the mobile platform market. No one can stop evolution not even Apple.

iEvolve?

I'm sure the issue was Jobs felt betrayed that Eric Schmidt had sat on the Apple board during the iPhone development and a few months later Google come out with the own version, Schmidt was privy to information others wouldn't.

I think Steve Jobs had every right to be miffed at Google. Especially Eric Schmidt.

lol

The same can be said for all similar products including car design plane design, tv design furniture design this happens in all walks of life why should electronics be different?

The Palm device used touch screens long before the iphone. Apple took that and removed a couple of buttons it's the way things have been going. In fact Palm had apps long before Apple..

Exactly!

Ever since android popularity increasing vastly really since 2.1, apple have just been shaking in their boots and have resorted to now just suing all that they can especially the big ones like samsung and HTC.

I wonder why they don't go up against google heads on instead of the smaller companies..............

I wonder why they seem to be trying to get the latest samsung products banned nearly everywhere (the GS 2 and 10.1 tablet)...........

Apple are just scared at the sheer speed of Google's/Android's growth and popularity.

I don't think they are, their year on year sales have increased since the first iPhone. No single Android phone comes close in sales, even the somewhat lacklustre upgrade (4S) sold 4,000,000+ in the first 3 days of being available.

Also, whilst Android market share has increased a lot it's because they target the low, mid and high end and have been taking sales from RIM and Symbian based devices.

The only mobile that looks very similar to the iphone is the GS 1 and GS 2 and that is it.

They're the only ones Samsung are being sued over, aren't they?

The 48% android market share vs 19% apple isn't a true reflection.

Exactly how many manufacturer's phone does android appear in?

And how many manufacturer uses IOS?

When Google were already in posession of android and developing it, Apple would have known this and if it was a problem could have had him off the board.

Then blame the US patent system for being retarded. Not a company that are trying to protect their ideas.

Also look at Microsoft. Their Metro UI is substantially different from iOS. It's perfectly possible to have a different look and feel. Google just saw iOS, decided it was better than their beta version (which I linked in an earlier post) and decided to change it.
