Steve Jobs vowed on the demise of android!

Also if Android is such an original creation why do some many OEMs pay $15 to Microsoft for each handset sold? Oh wait, it's Apple who are cool to hate now. Silly me.

Yes - it's a fashion thing... like iPhones and iPads and MacBooks /sarcasm

iOS5 is a straight copy from Android. Facts.

Ugh - hate the statement of 'facts' with the statement of fact! It's not - that's a ridiculous call - they've both got elements of each in them but that because of the form factor and the logical nature of natural design.

Em, no HTC and others are being sued by apple as well, pretty much every company are, but only the real successful/popular ones like HTC and Samsung are getting it the most.

That's great and all, but isn't what I asked. They're the only phones Samsung are being sued over, aren't they?

Then blame the US patent system for being retarded. Not a company that are trying to protect their ideas.

Also look at Microsoft. Their Metro UI is substantially different from iOS. It's perfectly possible to have a different look and feel. Google just saw iOS, decided it was better than their beta version (which I linked in an earlier post) and decided to change it.

What's the US patent system got to do with it? Most of the legal issuses between Apple and Samsung have been outside of the US so would be covered by EU patent law, Australian patent law etc..

The 48% android market share vs 19% apple isn't a true reflection.

Exactly how many manufacturer's phone does android appear in?

And how many manufacturer uses IOS?

its exactly reflective of how many handsets sold run iOS v's android.... nothing to do with manufacturer v's manufacturer.

This thread should be closed really, it's seems to be just full of people stating opinion as fact and unwilling to be impartial in the slightest.

People say how they feel and from what i am reading within reason aswell this can be used on both sides of the droid/ios debates

By this logic there is hardly any Windows computers in the world because some are built by Dell, some by HP, some by Toshiba, Lenovo, etc.

The fact is perfectly straight forward, 48% of the smart phone out there use Android, 19% IOS. Nothing more more nothing less. Of course, Apple make more money from their 19% and there will be more iPhones than any other brand of phone - but that is more due t lack of competition and freemarket within Apple. If Apple let anyone use IOS and made IOS compatible with different hardware then Apples share would be a lot smaller.

Apples control of iOS and OSX is down to stringent control of the user experience. I'm sure it does their help desks wonders for not having to deal with a vast array of different hardware configs. I can't help but wonder how much money they'd make if OSX was freely available to non Apple hardware users... I'd consider using it, if only in dual boot...

Android is a copy of iOS, there is no way to say it isn't, you just have to look at it to know. Give credit to MS, they saw that a direct copy wasn't the way, so they designed something completely different, Google did not, thats why Eric was booted because Steve had every right to see it as a betrayal...

The only reason Android has been successful is because the other mobile phone makes had no way of competing with Apple so had too choose an OS from a company as big as Google to go head-to-head. Plus lets not forget that share market is made up of so much fragmentation, just how many of those devices are unofficial 1.6 on chinese rip off tablets and phones?...I'd say the official user base (2.3 +) are significantly lower than iOS. You can easily say that however many Apple deceives are out there with iOS, the majority of them are updated to recent releases, you cannot say that about Android.

Lets not forget that the Linux community are ****ed at Google for exploiting the open source code! ;)

Anyway, the only real war to be won is customer happiness, and you just know it ain't Android wearing that crown! ;)

I for one am glad both exist, the competition has helped make smartphones mainstream, where as before the iPhone, there was WinMo 6.1 and the improved 6.5
And of course RIM, with it's horrible patented UI and ball navigation.

of course, both WinMo 6.1, 6.5 and RIM smartphones were all aimed at business users so their market share was very limited

any how.

@FishFluff

that link you posted is total rubbish, a Stock Android UI is much more similar to the first image. I have my HTC HD2 using a stock Android rom as the HTC sense UI (second image) is horrible.

my current UI using ADW and without HTC sense
Clock is just a widget and the menu bar can be shortened.

I'm not sure I understand how it's a copy? Is it because it has a grid of icons? Nokia had that before Apple, Samsung had that before Apple hell even Alcatel phones had that... none of the menus are the same... if it's just the grid of icons, it doesn't compute...
