Steve Jobs vowed on the demise of android!

When Google were already in posession of android and developing it, Apple would have known this and if it was a problem could have had him off the board.

Android was a bit of a different beast at that time though but yeah if I was Apple I wouldn't have even risked it. I guess they did though because they wanted some of the popular Google apps on the iPhone.

Back then though the rumour was that they were developing a desktop OS, I'm sure Schmidt wasn't bringing in Android prototypes to the Apple board and showing it off.

They're the only ones Samsung are being sued over, aren't they?

Em, no HTC and others are being sued by apple as well, pretty much every company are, but only the real successful/popular ones like HTC and Samsung are getting it the most.

I can understand why apple would sue samsung for the GS 1 and GS 2 though, however we all know fine well the real/main reason, which is the sheer amount of sales for those 2 mobiles especially the GS2 and considering how great the GS 2 is as well when it comes to reviews by experts and users.

Apple ripped off their GUI idea from Xerox. Which is partly why their vs Microsoft lawsuit was thrown out of court.

HTC have been making smart phones a lot longer than Apple too.

ipad styled tablets featured in 2001, a movie that came out in 1968.

Truth is that Apple haven't got a leg to stand on and that Jobs was blowing hot air.

He was a good businessman though who died too young, so R.I.P Jobs.

.

The 48% android market share vs 19% apple isn't a true reflection.

Exactly how many manufacturer's phone does android appear in?

And how many manufacturer uses IOS?

That 48% over Apples 19% is based on customers choice of phones isnt it?. It's the public that choose to buy Android based handsets over the Apple iphone surely?

Thats how i viewed it anyway.

Oh in that case I'll get my Betamax video recorder out of the loft, Sony must have defeated VHS after all as VHS recorders were made by so many manufacturers!

I agree with what Fox says, there is only so many ways you can actually do things. Like a Windows desktop we have shortcuts to apps, dragging and dropping, backgrounds, menus etc.

Its always gonna be similar. How can you possibly move things about a touch screen effectively without current layouts. Only thing I can think of is making things circular instead of square lol which is a pointless idea:)

For the most case we don't actually know which patents are in court. It isn't just the look and feel.
Wp7 have made something that looks total different.
Apple is also winning the court battles.

What really needs to happen is a overhaul of the patent system as it's just crazily ****.

What needs to happen is the entire system needs to be removed and the human race work together in perfect harmony.

(Fat chance ofcourse)

Patents need to be much more specific i guess, so theres no room for vagueness or interpretation.

Jobs was a genius, he was a visionary when it came to aesthetics and UI and undeniably a marketing virtuoso. However he was also a child prone to tantrums and toy throwing when things didn't go his way. The simple fact that he couldn't allow his devices to speak for themselves and constantly felt the need to swing the full force of his patent laden legal arm to stifle competitiveness is a clear indicator that a great deal of the device 'superiority' was down to marketing smoke and mirrors.

I think it's quite right - he got jilted by his "Google love in" relationship and started having the largest and most expensive tanty in the commercial world. It's nothing to be proud of and it's doing the market and us as consumers no favours.

Disclaimer: I love Apple devices, I think iOS and OSX are stunning and brilliantly clever but I dislike Apple and Jobs greatly for what I perceive to be treating customers as morons and money bags. I prefer to use Android and products like MS Windows 7 or Spotify to meet my software and hardware needs and desires. This is just my opinion.

Now he's dead i imagine apple will move away from this "thermonuclear" war against android in favour of saving/making more money.

I'm curious to see if they will choose to 'dilute' Jobs design ethic of the bare minimum of holes in the devices and allow users to having things like replaceable batteries and microSD storage... Possibly not though, why buy a 64GB device if you can buy a 32 and jam another 32 in the SD slot...

the samsung cases though they're doing though trade courts not patent courts.

if they went though the other courts the court could over turn the patent and **** them, the trade court doesn't have the power to do so.

I'm not sure if hats the right terms but there was an article somewhere that described how they were doing it and it was quite crafty.

You gotta admit apples legal team are excellent.

Did you really need to exaggerate that much?

Fairly accurate paraphrasing IMO

Steve Jobs said he wanted to destroy Android and would spend all of Apple's money and his dying breath if that is what it took to do so. "I'm going to destroy Android, because it's a stolen product. I'm willing to go thermonuclear war on this."

Samsung and others are going trying to over turn the patterns. it just takes a lot longer. However if they win then apple may have to pay compensation for all the lost sales in the other court cases. It's not sneaky they have the patents and so they are entitled to do what they are doing. It's upto the others to try and over turn them.
