I've tried Homeserve, they want £185 for the repair, cant remember the value of the parts they pay up to though.. not sure they mentioned it actually.

0800repair said they dont have a specialist that deals with my make.

Comet can do it but on the 31st of this month, 10days away!

I think the compressor has gone, the freezer part still works, the bottom draws of the fridge work its the open top half that isnt cooling properly. Its making a rather huge amount of noise which is scaring my dog, golden lab who in turn is chewing the door frame to bits despite having toys around to chew :@

Anyone know of any companies that'd do it, I mean reputable ones not random yellow pages (which I'm going to call for quotes now).

Also, anyone know the cost of my fix? Like above I think the compressor is fooked.

Samsung American Style Fridge Freezer :)

Buy the compressor and fit yourself?

I looked and theres a kit, 134quid including delivery.. might aswell go for a company that does a fixed rate fix for it. I tried a few companies and they dont work with my appliance make because its too expensive. Really wasnt something I thought about when I got it, liked the look of it and had to have it. Wont be making that mistake again.. ;)

Aye I did, they are 44miles away and their office is closed till monday! :(

In the end I went with repaircare for £214 for 12months policy cover, first repair is up to the value of a similar spec appliance (think thats around 1k actually) and second repair they cover up to £150quid on parts/labour (maybe just parts)and then I pay the extra. Seems like a good deal to me. If its unrepairable, they take 44quid for call out (a lot of places charge around 60quid) and refund me the rest. Doing it over quarterly to which doesnt cost any extra.

I also tried kicking it and manly slapping it but that didnt work :( So I kicked and slapped the dog and thats that problem fixed. Anyone spec me a cheap burial service for pets now?

You will find it difficult to replace the compressor yourself as you have to regas the system.

If the freezer is working i doubt it's the compressor.

Not sure on the Samsung ones but if the freezer is working and blows cold air into the fridge side by a duct it's common that ice has built up blocking the airway.
Try and do a full defrost turning appliance off and opening the doors and leave it for 24-48 hours.

Just for future reference most of the cheaper American side by side fridge freezers are rubbish.

Just get seperate fridge and freezer.More space inside and more reliable.

I think its beyond the defrost due to the loud noise it makes, think the fan may have died or the compressor somehow. I'm not too keen on tinkering with something I know little about I'd rather someone had a proper fix of it and then I'll watch (annoying supervisor of workmen in my house type person that I am :D) and see if I could have done it.

I read that about the freezer cooling the fridge, so a few days ago I bumped the freezer temp down (to -22) to see if it made a difference and it did slightly but if its blocked then no real way to check.

We hadnt long done a proper shop so I cant defrost everything as thats a huge waste of frozen meat :(

Tis all booked for tuesday now though
