My landlord won't replace a blown double glazed window unit in a spare bedroom, is this a reasonable request or not?

The unit (a full top to bottom opener) has blown leaving an unsightly build up of condensation inside the unit.

Any thoughts?

It took 9 months and our house getting broken into to replace the back door that was smashed in. (true story)

Innuendo aside, you have to keep pushing else they'll try to walk all over you.
 
If someone uses that room I would say yes. If you use it as a dumping ground I can understand why he hasn't fixed it.

If I was a Landlord I would want my houses to be in good condition and keep the tennants relatively happy. My student house Landlord was a **** though.

Aside from the fact the condensation inside it doesn't look nice and the insulation of that panel is marginally lower, what is there for a landlord to be falling over himself to fix?

If I was the landlord I'd fix it but it's not urgent.

I agree it's not urgent, but it doesn't look great, and if it were my house I'd want to try and keep it in tip top condition.

After all, if he doesn't bother taking care of his property, surely that sends the wrong signal for tenants looking after the property?
 
Shelter have a good website with lots of useful information and facts for both Tenants and Landlords. Has plenty of information with regards to a tenants rights. This section covers repairs.

Personally I would say he has a duty to fix it, but whether its a priority or not is another matter. I guess it all depends on what impact it has on yourself and the property....

Indeed. How long has it been blown for and when did you move in?

Believe it or not not all landlords are minted so he might be trying to get som funds together.
 
Tell him you are paying £20 less a month due to not being able to see out the window.

I don't think that's reasonable grounds to hold back payment on the contract I use but can't confirm that without getting off my arse. If its not then holding back payment may get you grief.

Never rented but you should be getting what you paid for and got when you first moved in, rent is like a mortgage you are paying for the up keep of the house with your rent money.

Probably BTL idiot.

Like i say it'll depend what's in the contract that was signed at the start of tenancy. You'll need reasonable grounds, I.e. significantly inconveniencing to hold payment if I remember rightly.
 
same with our old grumpy landlord, washing machine started to not work properly after 2 months of living in this house, landlord wont replace it because he bought it brand new for £90!! a brand new washing machine for £90?!
doesnt even have insulation up in the attic except a carpet....

How is it even possible to buy a 'brand new' washing machine for £90?

If it's furnished accommodation and the washing machine is part of the deal (and faulty), it need replacing or repairing.

Put in a claim for expenses for laundrette bills and travel back and forth until the matter is resolved.

If the machine is not replaced/repaired within a few days, make sure the letting agency/landlord know you will be claiming for travel to and from a laundrette, the cost of the laundrette and recompense for your time.

Hopefully that will get them to sort the issue out.

/edit - I may have not worded it very well, but I'm sure you get the gist :)
