Hey hope someone can help sort my very stranger starting problems i've had.

Over the last month my clio has often refused to start. There is no pattern, it can be at any time of day or night (even 5 minutes after a journey).
The lights or radio dont dip in power when trying to start it. The battery connections seem fine and not corroded. I have however had the battery since i've had the car (2006).

It sounds as if the car wants to start, but something is stopping it. I did wonder if its the immobiliser as the car seems to be making either 3 or 4 beeps after I lock it quite often now.

On many occasions, as soon as I try start the car I give it some accelerator and she bursts into life.

Any ideas ?

Almost exactly the same has happened to my 172 twice now over the past 6 years. Both times it was a dead battery.

I will give a new battery ago first and take it from there.

However the lights and radio don't dip in power ? so I thought it unlikley to be that ! :)

NON START CRANKING

Most Renaults have a CPS (Crankshaft Position Sensor), some times these become contaminated with particles from the clutch and can stop them working. If possible remove and clean. Some times it can be very hard to get senor out a trick that will some times work is, if you can see a hole in the bell housing near the CPS sensor try spraying carburettor cleaner onto the flywheel when cranking engine this will some times clean the sensor and vehicle will start. If still no luck may need new sensor, see non start section for testing.
