Rioter sentences are "too harsh" say human rights morons

Possibly his legal counsel advised him to do this.
and why would they put him at risk of a prison term when the only real evidence of intent (we're aware of) is their admission of guilt?
They must have, for this to make sense yes. Dont have that information so i don't know. The news media doesn't really give us this information. Just as a side-note - i notice this a lot on the news, we dont really get that much information on stories so that we can make a sound judgement. But we get enough information to make an emotional judgement....
Why would you? they're reporting on a judgement, not asking you to make one. They make it emotional so they get more viewers/readers, the more involved you are the more you'll follow the story, but you aren't actually being asked to make a decision and as such don't have access to all the evidence which the jury will do. If there was nothing to justify the conviction and the term of the sentence then the appeal would have been overturned. I'm not sure why you're so insistent that this was essentially just a joke facebook event, when as I've pointed out there was sufficient evidence for the CPS to acheive a substantial jail term compared to other facebook events which were merely deleted. You may not have access to all the facts, but it is obvious that more exist.

8 months jail and public humiliation for trying to flog a dodgy guitar? This country is beyond a joke, You should all feel ashamed of yourselves.

Would you :

a) Buy something you know is expensive for £20 of a random guy, at night in the middle of the city while there were riots going on?

b) Then try to flog it for a profit knowing full well you are dealing in stolen property?

I redirect you to the shame you should be feeling as a citizen

No shame here, just confusion as to how someone could be so stupid. Besides he'll only be serving 4 months and be out.

Are you advocating that being in the armed forces excludes one from consequences from breaking the law?

Thought I'd give this a little bump..

Anybody remember the two men who robbed/punched the Malaysian student in London? The two men got their sentences squashed today..

Two men who were locked up after they were found guilty of involvement in one of the defining moments of the London riots today had their convictions quashed.

Millions of people around the world watched in horror CCTV footage of 21-year-old Ashraf Rossli being robbed by men purporting to be Good Samaritans.

Mr Rossli, a Malaysian accountancy student, had only moments earlier had his jaw shattered by another rioter as he cycled in Barking, east London, in August 2011.

The picture of the man celebrating in the above link makes my stomach turn. Apparently there was no written judgement by the court of appeal, is this common? :S.

4 months that ruined his entire military career - 4 months for buying an item not actually stealing it - Sure he deserves a huge fine but 4 months?

Some convicted theifs dont get 4 months.

This guys life is ruined just to make an example 4 months may seem like nothing but look at his history and what field he is in his entire life is practicably ruined for something so minuscule.

Totally out of proportion.

Doesn't this mean that it wasn't them that attacked the Malaysian fella? Question is, who really done it?
