This is a semi - spec me a phone thread and semi - inform me thread.

Bit of background info I have a Samsung Galaxy S 2 as my current phone, my old phone is a 11 month old Samsung Galaxy S 1 which my GF currently uses.

Her contract is up this month so she will be getting an upgrade and wants a white Samsung Galaxy S 2.

This will mean I have both the S1 and S2, with a year left on my very decent contract. I assume selling both of these would pull in quite close to the £500 required for a brand new top end Android phone.

Having a quick read about I've heard about a Samsung Galaxy Note - I'm not really sure where this fits into the range, or the new Google Nexus (this is being built by Samsung I think)?

Just wondering what other peoples opinions are on when will be the right time for:

a) My GF to upgrade, no point her getting a white SGS2 now on a 24 month £35 contract only for it to be very old hat in 9 months.
b) Should I buy a new phone, and which one.

I'm happy with my GS2 at the moment.

I will not consider an iPhone as I'm tied into everything Google for work and I don't massively like what HTC offer.

Cheers

HTC sensation XL is coming out i think early next month its a high spec phone and its white, also has a 4.7 inch touch screen and beats audio technology, i may be wrong but i think pre orders come with a pair of white beats solos.

A Galaxy Note is a GS2 who ate too many pies because basically the only difference being a 1" bigger screen, 200Mhz faster processor clock and a stylus built in and in my opinion will be to big for a phone for most people especially a girl. The GN and the GS2 arn't massively different spec wise the GN has the better screen NFC and ICS and the SGS2 has the better GPU (but to be fair there ain't anything out that uses that power anyway) and will get a ICS at some point. I think if i was you i would plump for the GN at this moment in time.

HTC sensation XL is a downgrade from a SGSII.

Theres nothing out there that really tops a SGSII unless you was a better screen - then Galaxy Nexus.

Yeah the Sensation XL is a 1.5Ghz single core, no microSD capability, and 720p recording. Where as the XE is dual core, has microSD capability and does 1080p recording. Both offering the beats audio experience.

The problem with the XL is that the resolution of the screen hasn't changed yet the display size has, which makes me think it won't be very sharp at all. :(

Brilliant, so for me just stick with my SGSII for the next 12 months till my contract ends, and a white SGSII is still a brilliant phone for the better half to get on a 24 month contract.

Then just sell my SGSI - how much do they go for these days? Really good condition but without box. Extra battery that has never been used and leather case.

Sgs1 umm id say you'd be lucky to get £200 possibly a bit less now the sgs2 has been out a fair while.

Still a good phone of course.

the new Range of Samsung phones will most likely be out soon, check out the Samsung Galaxy R, smaller screen but great specs (Tegra2), for your GF that is.

I've just checked and the white GS2 is £35/month on The One Plan

Cheers, I couldn't find it. Wonder if I can get a deal through Mobiles.co.uk or some other sites as well?

This, so if your gf needs a lot of text/min this is the way forward plus you get truly unlimited data.

Going to look into this, but also Orange. Purely because as a teacher she is entitled to 25% off any contract through them so it might work out cheaper.

Also what is the best method of selling my Galaxy S?

I'm not a fan of eBay due to them taking 10% of the final fee plus PayPal, so maybe recycle it? Any other places I could sell it easily?

I've found the easiest way to sell a phone is to someone you know - at work, via mates, down the pub, etc. Just takes away all the rubbish you can end up dealing with by going the eBay route!

The recycle places are usually a rip off, but they work out pretty good for some phones, have to check.
