ok, so my 5770 is a pretty mediocre card - i'm waiting on the 7000 series - but it can still run most games on decent settings. the problem is that the temps on the card are ridiculous, as is the noise. it idles at about 50-55 degrees even after no gaming. after playing some tomb raider underworld on max settings yesterday the temps hit 91C so i was forced to turn everything down to minimum. even then it was running at about 80.
my first thought was to take the card apart and clean the fan, reseat with new thermal grease. but i can't seem to figure out how to take it apart. it came from a friend's dell xps 8100 and as a result is not quite a reference design. i'm wondering, can someone talk me through the exact process of taking the fan/cooler etc off of a reference 5770, and then maybe i can determine whether i'm being an idiot or whether there genuinely is no way to take it apart.
any other suggestions of how to deal with this problem are also appreciated. specs of my pc are in sig
