Somewhere over there.
This does make me wonder tbh, lets look at 4 to 4S. The only real difference to users on an everyday basis is the A5 processor and new camera and even so the 4 is quick so you may not know a great deal of difference?

I want the 4S i'm still on the 3G (24 month contract) but I can't seem to justify the cost vs the 4 except the fact it's shiny.

What will there be after the 4S? What can they do? Should I go to the 4S?

New technologies, designs and of course better specifications such as better processors, more ram and better batteries allow you to do more with your phone.

The iPhone won't be top of it's game forever, but I think it's still got some life left in it yet.

You might as well be asking 'What more can anyone do with their phone', same applies for all companies not just Apple surely.

3D, Thinner, Lighter, I'd place a bet as well on Apple being the first company to make a holographic phone- or something that is basically a thin piece of card and all the imaging/interaction takes place in 3D..

^ Apple use the same off the shelf parts everyone else does and always will do. (Chances are your mates Samsung Galaxy S2 has the same Sony 8mp sensor as your iPhone 4S for example)

I'm more interested in seeing how Apple tackle converged computing over the next few years.

Near Field Communication (so you can swipe your phone and pay for your shopping)
Better front facing camera
3D screen
Better battery life
Wireless charging
Quad core

That's just the stuff that's already in the market / in prototype.

3D phones? Gimmick, unless they can come up with a new use for them that no one has thought of before. The real next gen leap will be a retina LCD/eink hybrid display.

Thinner/faster/battery life are always going to happen but they're evolutionary rather than revolutionary

If we could answer that question it is likely that we wouldn't be on a BB!

If you look at what has been happening to phones over the last 10 years, and especially over the last 4-5, then there is a fairly common theme- they are becoming more and more like PC's. Apple and Google have done a very good job of transferring over the communication and entertainment aspects of PC's to phones but so far phones aren't very productive. So maybe that is an area they will pursue?

I think everyone looks at the 4S as a weak upgrade and a out of idea product from apple.

The reason (love it or hate it) is that apple knows full well to hold features back, annoyingly for the consumer we are willing to just get the next model because we want that feature that probably should have been there 2 generations ago. Again love it or hate it, Apples marketing team just knows the public will go for it.

What can Apple do for future iPhones... Theres so much to come. smaller, quicker existing technology. The software will always drive the iPhone and its within the software that will carry the iPhone ahead of competitors.
