Hey guys,

Basically looking to replace my old box ([email protected]). She served me well but sadly encoding game videos at 1080p with commentary is taking way to long.

Looking for a completely new rebuild. The only things I will be taking from my old box will be the DVD-RW drive and 3 storage hard drives (2x1tb and a 2tb).

I did some research and I saw some nice i7 bundles on the ocuk website but just wanted some confirmation here. Will want to overclock naturally. Saw some people here with [email protected]. Will that be possible on air.

Also, would like a nice big roomy case to fit all the harddrives etc. Nice cable management options are a must.

Gfx card wise, I will want to game but SLI/Crossfire is not a must. I heard that Nvidia are better when encoding with after effects and premiere pro as the GPU can help encode. Is this right?

Thanks in advance

  • Not entirely sure on the case but looks pretty good, obviously design is personal preference.
  • Decent 850W PSU enough to add in another GTX570 later on down the line.

Thanks shadow. A few questions tho. Surely a i7 would be better for video encoding? Also is 8gb enough for video encoding? I think 8gb should suffice but i'll just double check.

Starting with the build listed above, I definitely think the processor is the right choice. Not going to argue with the SSD. Love mine. But there is no way I'd be spending that much on a graphics card so far into the 40nm process life cycle with the 28nm cards now about 4 months away. I dont think you need an 850W class power supply.

I dont know much about z68 mobos so cant comment on it its worth the extra over the base cheaper z68 boards. How much you spend on a case is a personal choice. Maybe spend less to put towards a...... Monitor? Why no mention in this thread? Why does no one ever mention their existing monitor when they state they are keeping their current one in build request threads?

I have visions of all these £1000 builds ending up like the comedy thread guy in the gaming forum hooking his £1K up to his decrepit 768p and then moaning it doesnt look much better than his Xbox.

Or worse still. A CRT
