Some people must have done something similar, racked up loans and credit cards and then moved to Thailand or somewhere else cheap and never return to the uk. Live like kings for the rest of your live.

no chance of that now but i remember back when i was in my late teens(second half of the 90's) it was very easy to accumulate large amounts of credit. I had 3 credit cards before I hit 20 with a combined limit of over 50k nowadays its one with a 2 1/2k limit i dont think we'll see the likes again, back then you could easily apply and get 110% morgages etc

My one and only credit card is an MBNA one, which is the Maryland bank. Does that count as non-UK?

Yup. He had a very good highly paid job, a wife with a newborn baby who moved here from thailand and he met a chinese girl online, got the loan and upped n left for china. Bit of a ****ty thing to do but it's possible!

Hope it wasn't with HSBC. Never heard of an unsecured loan of this size. I always though £25k was the limit from "official" sources.
