Add storage to a 4GB Xbox 360?

Yeah you can buy the 250gb HDD from plenty of places. I'd only buy the official slim version myself.

It's 16GB maximum if using a USB device, and not the official HDD. Link from the MS site below. Any compatible USB device should give you the few GB you require.

Although if I'm correct there's a few games that only see HDD's as storage and I know has been mentioned on here before.

Cool. Thanks guys. I have no need to store media on my 360, but installing Forza alone has used all my space! LOL

Get a cheap 20gb hdd from the old style 360 (about £10), take the drive out of the shell and slot it into your new xbox.

What type of HDD are they (SATA, IDE?). I have ordered a 16GB stick, but have actually found there is some stuff you cannot do without a HDD (downloading friends replays in Forza 4, for example).

They're 2.5" SATA drives but you can't just buy any drive and slot it in. You can however get any Xbox 360 hard drive (available in capacities of 20GB, 60GB, 120GB, 250GB and 320GB) and if they're in the older size enclosure for the older original Xbox 360, you can take the drive out of the enclosure and slot it into the 4GB 360.

This.

You do however need a means of keeping the drive straight in the slot itself (the slot is designed for a caddy not a bare drive). I use some pieces of packing foam to keep the drive straight in my 4GB (had a 120GB Elite that died on me).

just go on ebay and buy the slims black caddy , i did that cost me just £3.99

Yeah getting a caddy isnt hard, however, what is the 'special' requirement that means you can only use drives from other xboxs? Why can't you just use any old SATA 2.5" drive?
