im planning on upgrading my graphics soon my 9800gt is doing good for most games i throw at it , but battlefield beta obviously not, id like to step it up a gear so all future games that come out will be good with it etc. hopefully something in the range or 120-150 it doesnt have to be ultra lol. ive been looking at the the 560 and the 6950 i am correct.

The cheapest card you can get in your price range that will deliver the performance your looking for would be a 560ti or maybe a 1Gb 6950.

Out of those two I would get a 560ti, simply becuase it is a card endorsed by the game. (Dice have been giving them out as prizes etc....)

As close to £150 will get you this 560ti.

as you mentioned in the title, a good graphics card for bf3. With that sort of money you won't get anything good I'm afraid. I would recommend doing as opethdisciple said ^ above

I'm in the same possition. I suspect I'll be going for the ASUS 560Ti Direct CU II card for around the £180 mark. If you don't want to break the bank and aren't confident overclocking your GPU, this card seems like a decent all-rounder.

thanks, I obviously knew I wouldnt be able to max it out , but id like to push it more than my 9800 would do. just out of curiousity is there any more in that range maybe a few quid more, my mrs said she would get me a monitor for xmas off her and the baby but i might just go with that an put some money to it myself. birthday is also 29th dec

He can get a 6870 in his price range which is still a good card. At 1920x1200 i was playing the bf3 beta at all ultra settings with high aa post at 60 frames average. To say he cant get anything good for his money is not telling it how it is. With msaa on the card was not powerful enough but the high aa post setting made the game look good anyway.

I think people tend to underestimate how good a card the 6870 is for the money you pay.

Good point.

I forgot about the 6870's.

I see the 1Gb 6950's have gone up in price!!

Almost no point getting a 1Gb 6950, pay alittle bit more for the 2Gb version.

I wish I was in the market for a new gpu... :(

But my 5870 is still going strong!

This is bang on £150

The release notes do suggest the drivers fix some 'last minute' issues with Battlefield 3. I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to this game.

so many replys, the 5870 is really tempting now, I think im best of keeping the names in my head and just asking about AFTER the game is released

I wouldn't be getting anything too expensive at the moment simply because the new cards aren't far away.

Ignoring the rumours run by as far as I can tell only 2-3 known to be crap websites, AMD cards have always been due for late this year, the current thinking is Dec 6th release.

TSMC/AMD/Nvidia have all said today that 28nm volume production is underway, parts have shipped to AMD/Nvidia from TSMC, as in finished working chips, and TSMC has the HP aswell as HPL process going at the moment.

The only real issue is, exactly which cards are in production, most rumours have high/mid end AMD but Nvidia only doing the low end for now with high end miles away. Either way its likely we'll have at the very least the midrange next gen parts available before the end of the year, and possibly the high end, meaning probably something in the £150-200 range with a crapload more performance.

Its a shame, would be great if the new cards were out before BF3 but thats life.

Maybe pickup a second hand 5850/5870 for now, pretty damn cheap, very good value, won't lose a lot of value after the new cards launch, some obviously but not as much as a 6950/570/580/6970 will lose. If you aren't happy enough with the performance sell a 5850/70 on in a couple months and pick up a new gen card, overall you'd end up with far better performance for very little extra cost.

I can't tell you the amount of times I've looked at the 5870, then looked at a 560Ti then looked back, and back again... With all the talk of the next generation of cards being 'around the corner' it's a real struggle to know what the right thing to do is!?

Don't ask me where I read it as I don't remember but I heard ATI are pushing their new cards to 2012 out of choice as the demand for their current range is still high and nVidia partners aren't launching actual products until 2012 anyway.

I had a similar dilemma of whether to get something now and risk it being obsolete in a few months or struggle with what I had for now. In the end I decided to get a new mid-range card (560Ti) so I could enjoy the games I want to play in the meantime and just trade-up when I feel the need to or it makes sense.
