confused. The sound options for my laptop don't seem to have a headphones only option.

For some reason my sound options don't seem to give me the option to have all of my sound coming only through headphones.
It only gives me the option of two possible ways to play sound
Speakers and Headphones combined
Speakers only.

The headphones are only being recognised as a communication device and so only are playing sound from things which windows recognises as communication applications (such as skype.)

no idea why this is happening, shall post screenshot later to illustrate what I mean.

I just know its gonna be something blindingly obvious that I just haven't noticed. But myriad searches can't find it out.

not the headphones cause my Home PC has windows 7 64 bit too and it allows me to set sound to only headphones there.

Doesn't the sound automatically switch when you plug in headphones?
If I try to set headphones as default device it doesn't change them to it. I can however set them as default comms.
It should, it isn't doing so, that is part of the problem. The other part is that the headphones are only ever recognised as communication devices.

Standard headphone jack, not a set of USB headphones, in fact they are Goldring DR50.

One possibility (though I'm probably wrong), maybe microsoft drivers thinks I'm plugging in something different than what they are...
