Hard Drive Pricing going up at an alarming rate!!!!

I managed to snaffle 3 x 2TB External USB3.0 drives for under £63 a go ... will use 1 for the pc, 1 for the media player and 1 as a backup. Probably sell the 3 internal drives on at a later date for pretty much the same price or more.;)

When the drives were put on TWO I was going to get a 1TB HDD to replace a couple of older and smaller drives, as I was going to get it on Friday and by then it had become clear that TWO actually stood for 'This Wednesday Only', I didn't.

Crazy money! But after the low prices we have come to expect over the past 12 months or so they will be high. Does anybody know what is going or could potentially happen with SSD prices?

You think things are bad on normal desktop drives? How about this then... Went to buy some 600gb velociraptors yesterday and they were almost 80 quid a drive more expensive than we bought at 2 weeks ago

If the demand for SSD's goes up due to HDD shortages then SSD's may get pushed up in price as well.

LOL...

I keep reading through this thread and seeing the usual "funny how prices go up near christmas" and such.

Your on the internet, google is your friend.

Im amased at how anyone could posibly not see that there is indeed and issue and that Christmas has got nothing to do with it.

Wow, prices have gone up crazy, was only 30 quid other week for a cheap massive space hdd, just been looking thru prices now because im in need of one.

Why the hell have prices gone up so much?

Just a follow up to my last post about the warranty offered by Seagate on their Green 2TB drives...

I have now got written confirmation that it will be for two years from Seagate and not three.
Regardless of how the drive is advertised by any retailer Seagate will not give three years warranty on that drive.

While I have cheap internal 2TB drives coming out of my ears, so to speak, it was just my luck to suddenly be in the market for a 1TB USB 3 External jobby.

Oh well, it's only money. :(

Same, bought me 2x 2tb usb 3 drives, £60 each, its ridiculous as the prices have mostly only hit internal drives, a lot of the time because places like OCUK know whats going on in the industry and adjust to things like this, a lot of places that sell retail/external drives, don't.

One site that IS heavily based on components and has adjusted prices, cheapest 3tb is £160+ now, cheapest 3tb EXTERNAL drive, is £110. :p

Just grab them and pull the drive out if you need the speed, or keep external for simplicity anyway.
