I don't agree with that particularly, i like the current system where no matter what kind of person you are outside, when you're in the hospital you're all the same. You get treated based on how likely you are to survive/make a full recovery. Nobody has the moral capacity to judge who is the better person and thus who deserves a new heart.

Besides, can you imagine the paperwork? :p

Well said.

Who is to decide who is the better person and that determines they are the 'right' person to get the organ. I'm an atheist, but "let he without sin cast the first stone" seems to be apt here.

As has been said time and time again an opt out system would work fine. Those who feel passionately about not giving organs can simply opt out and maybe persuade their family and friends to opt out too. People who don't really know one way or another/can't be bothered would be automatically opted in.

What's the problem with that? I cannot see any issues at all.

There are no issues, I wonder if there is an ePetition...

Found one - http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/2044
If we can force our inept government to do something, this would save many more lives than any of these "wars on terror".

But I still think it should be a case of,

You can either register/stay registered as a donor & receive organs, or opt out & receive nothing.

Obviously some people would be willing to donate but don't want organs, they should be free to do as they wish (hurting nobody or taking more than they are giving).

Imagine having a 7 year old child & watching it die, because some random person wants to be buried with some extra meat - this isn't some over the top emotional appeal either, as it happens all the time.

I just don't see the need, there would be a huge surplus of body parts, so this just wouldn't happen.

4 pages and still no one has posted about regularly donating their "organ" to the ladies?

I'm disappointed OcUK!

for an organ of mine to go to a stranger is something i cannot make a decision about right now.

I know you've made several posts since this bit, but this line stuck out to me (this isn't an attack btw :)).

You say you can't make a decision about it right now, which implies you're not sure about it - if this is the case, wouldn't it be better for you to be not sure and save someone's life, than to be not sure and have your organs go to waste?

Unfortunately, by the time it comes to it, you're already dead and it will be too late to make the decision.

Anyway, following this thread, I've registered here: https://www.organdonation.nhs.uk/ukt/RegistrationForm.do

I agree it should be opt-out, echoing the reasons others have posted regarding the majority of people simply being too lazy, forgetful, etc.
