I#m looking at replacing my 54 plate 407 HDi Exec with something a little more economic around town, but not sure what. I have about £2500 cash to play with (plus poss trade in) or can go the company lease way.

I do mostly around town work, carrying pc's, IT equipment, cables etc but need a car thats good MPG but not too small. I have looked at the A1 and thats not too bad but a good MPG urban.

I do go to scotland or europe once or twice a year with my wife and child so boot space needs to be big enough for a case or 2.

Any suggestions?

Hardly anything gets good mpg around town - if a 2.0 HDi is too thirsty for you then short of a bicycle you wont be making much of a reduction in fuel costs.

Is there anything wrong with your Peugeot?
I can't really see anything that's much better that'll fit your spec TBH.

The Peugeot is the perfect car for the job. An A1 costs considerably more than £2,500. Don't waste your time and money.

It's just not worth it.

Keep the £2500 in your pocket to buy diesel.

All of the above,

At least it isn't like the thread the other day (which the OP had deleted) where he was looking at spending 18k? to save on fuel and running costs over his current car.

The 407 HDI Exclusive is a nice place to be round town. I would rather be in one of these stuck in traffic than some super mini

My father-in-law had one and would average 45mpg and 99% of his driving was round town, so it is possible you have a very heavy right foot or there is a problem with the car.

Either way that £2500 will make up any shortfall in fuel and runing costs for 5 years if keeping your current car over getting an aditional 10mpg from a newer car, not to mention depreciation etc etc.

no I could spend £2.5k or get a finance lease A1 @ £166pcm

I always watch the MPG carefully, I have had to replace the DPF as well recently, it completely choked the engine and I'm wandering if it damaged the turbo

That's the problem with modern diesels, there's so much complicated crap to consider and no one knows how to look after them properly or what their intended usage is
