Occupy London! Here we go again!

Why does there have to be an independent source?

Because Dolph said so and everyone else follows suit?

I asked for clarification from him on what independent would be, he chose not to answer or does not know.

This argument is childish though, there are tents in Edinburgh as well.. I couldn't care less if they were filled with people or giraffes. It is seriously unimportant, and I saw them and also got the point they were making got on with my day and that's it. Nothing more to it.

I should add I feel staying there at night is irrelevent to the argument made, I don't think any of them really believe they can change the system like so. It's a protest not a revolution. I've known other 'political' protests to have been similar with nothing as probing as this.

Why does it matter if the protesters go home at night? Does this undermine their arguments the same way as buying a cup of coffee from Starbucks?

Dont want to let protesting about capitalism get in the way of going home, watching TV, using iPhones etc do we?

They are a load of idiots with no clue what they are talking about and nothing better to do.

No but there was an article in the local newspapers website about some sort of plan for something. And loads of people who couldn't spell in the comments section cheering it on.

They're protesting against capitalism? Would iPhones and TVs not be around if it were not for capitalism?

I've only followed the Wallstreet protest... so I'm unsure what the London ones are about.

Where is the incentive to develop consumer luxury goods in a society where everyone is equal, is allocated jobs and has the same monetry worth?

How many popular brands and consumer goods came out of Russia before the Iron Curtain fell?

Everyone would be equal? Why would that the case?

How many popular brands and consumer goods have ever come out of Russia and into England at all? I'm sure there's a vodka kicking about somewhere...

As a programmer, I'd still do my job regardless of a cash incentive. Personally, I work on a few public and private opensource projects for free in my spare time because for me having the chance to create something great motivates me far more than money ever will and I'm sure I'm not alone on that. It can't be said for all professions... but I reckon a fair few like doctors, and people in medicine would continue to work without money, if that were a possibility.

tldr: we'd probably still have sexy phones if people like myself were about and money (and patents...) wasn't a thing.

I wonder how many of them have bank accounts with big corporations, indirectly funding the exact crony capitalism they hate.

What's the alternative? At least with a big bank you know your money is somewhat safe as the tax payers will end up bailing it out should they run into trouble.

and again, is it capitalism they're against?? as I said I'm not following the protests in London, but that's not what they're protesting against in NY.

The incentive is the fact that people aren't boring ****s?

Hundreds? From one field i've studied enough to actually be familiar with producers that were popular many decades ago, Industar, Zorki, Zenit etc? Not only were they popular, but the goods they made were brilliant. Solid workmanship and would (and still do) last 100 years. Can't say that about anything made in the West any more can you? Definitely can't say it about most things made in China.

Well thats me convinced.

Yea, because the camera market - camera technology is quite useful to the military for example - is just the same as the luxury consumer goods market.

I have several banking [and other] products and also think there are genuine and serious flaws in what we have now. I would argue for a more social morally responsible capitalist system which is far more likely than some unknown quantity which is unlikely to appear anytime soon. It is entirely possible to have contradicting principles/feelings in comparison to your actions and feel little if any cognitive dissonance. All depends on the person mind you, realism perception etc. What level you take things to also.

Yet another product its easy to see why such a society would develop ;)

Because they were at war, being heavily shafted and a single man designed it with simplisity in mind to try and help their war effort in the face of defeat?
