335i M Sport v Infiniti G37

UK G37 Coupe with Navigation and leather is £38759
UK 335i Coupe with Pro navigation and leather is £37300

Oops.

Game over Infiniti.

yes. but lets not forget they are significantly lower priced, and arguably more reliable, than the European equivalent. If I had managed to knock a few more grand off the G37 I would probably be in one today. The quality wasnt that bad for the $.
However, If they are trying to sell Infinities at a similar price to equivalent German models in the UK though.. I agree they have no chance!

Certain brands display a real arrogance in some markets. Merc/Audi/BMW/JLR all suffer from that here because they know they don't have to try and sell anything, punters with cash are lining up for the top models.
But when that attitude is passed onto the after sales service you will really start to regret it.

From what I've heard of late, Jaguar customer service is meant to be very good. That could just be because they want to steal sales away from Merc, Audi and BMW by being very friendly and helpful.

The entry-level G costs £33,549. A 335i M Sport saloon costs £36,920. With the Infiniti you also get things like front (and rear) parking sensors, a speed limiter, shift paddles, an electrically-adjustable steering column, electric seats and so on as standard. Not as expensive options. You get the obligatory like USB and Bluetooth connectivity too, which you might not get on the BMW - don't know off the top of my head.

That may not be the best comparison, but I just had a quick browse :)

It wasn't that bad on My Range Rover (which was the same dealer as Jag) until my warranty expired, after which I was made to feel like an inconvenience to them.

But I am sure a lot of it is a cultural thing, and to do with the kind of people who get employed to do customer service and sales in this part of the world. My experience in Europe was much better TBH.

My point was ofc not to slander all BMW dealerships (wouldn't dare!) but to say that Infiniti are standing out in the market, in service at least, compared to the competition.

Why are you comparing an entry level G with an M Sport level 335i? The 335i SE is the base of the range just as the entry level G is the base of the G range.

All 335's have parking sensors and a speed limiter, and the coupes have electric sports seats, etc etc.

They need to be £10k less and the fact we can even debate the price means there are far, far from that.

The G didnt just feel a bit cheaper - it felt like it was a complete league apart. It was like turning up in 2002 to a 530i Sport v E320 Avantgarde group test driving a Vectra GSi.

I don't get an option for 335i SE on the configurator, so I went for the most expensive one :p

The BMW only comes with rear parking sensors, hence the emphasis on 'front'.

Coupes are more expensive, as you point out. And coupes.

Didn't realise they came with limiters. Duly noted! :)

Try an M if you can, that seems the car that Infiniti's most keen on selling - one of the reasons you can get it with an 'economical' diesel (or hybrid) option. Be interested to see what you think of it.

Those numbers show that they don't have much of a chance in the UK then. Add to that the fact that they don't do diesels either, and there you go..

Toyota are the number one seller here, and Nissan are massive too.. so there is less of a stigma about quality finish in other markets, for the regular folks its more about price and features.

The G37 didnt have wood, but the silver trim was merely tacky plastic rather than proper metal.

So obviously had the G37 been fitted with wood, it would have been crappy wood :p

Yeah I wasn't sure what the UK pricing was but over here the MSRP of a 335i base spec is $42k. Add in the 'Convenience Package' and 'Premium Package' which is pretty much mandatory ($1,800 and $2,650) respectively, nav system ($2,100), iPod adapter ($400 lolol) and you are at $50k pretty quickly which is the price of the G37 Limited/'regular' G37 with all the options ticked and $6k left over.

My Cadillac DTS had a clock there as well. Infact so did the Cadillac SRX.

I think its a feature designed to make you feel like you are driving a Rolls Royce...

OH WAIT THIS IS THE WOOD THING AGAIN RIGHT?

DAMN that's them out of the equation then, my '02 Deville is digital yo so I'm not sure I could go back :p

What did you think of the Cadillacs? :p

One thing that surprises me about these modern 'high tech' cars is why more of them don't have HUDs?

From memory, it was only one of the top end Benzs that had this features but you'd expect the Japanese with their penchant for gadgetry in their cars to have implemented this more on their cars. Would be a nice feature if you press button and flip between HUD and dashboard.

Very nice write up and even going by first line I'd have to confess I've never been a massive fan of the BMW range but that said at the same time I can't argue they are not a lovely if not beautiful car unlike the G37 which on the inside isnt to bad, but it's that long slow walk that would take forever to get there unlike your car which would have me waking that little bit extra each morning.

The Americans that started using them first, in '88. First colour one was on the Corvette C5 in '98.

You can get them on lots of cars now but they tend to be options, and most people can't see the point or aren't bothered. Some may even find it distracting.

The new Citroen DS5, however, does have one as standard - and they're starting to become increasingly prevalent. Plenty of Peugeots have them too, as well as various BMWs and Mercedes, if you tick the right boxes.

I think now that they've got the functionality and capability to display things like nav instructions, besides just speed, there's more justification for them. The manufacturers can then further tout it as a 'safety' thing as you don't have to take your eyes off the road when driving.

New Camaro has one too:
