I'm going to Japan because of my work and it's an 11 hour flight.

All I've got right now to entertain me are The Brothers Karamazov, Catch 22 and The Island (Huxley).

My flight is next week and I'm worried I might go crazy being in the air for that long.

Any advice?
Thanks

What time is your flight?

When I fly to Hong Kong (which is about 12hrs?) I normally try to make myself really tired the day before flying.... Sleep for a few hours, wake up for the meal, watch a film, back to sleep, wake up for the next meal, watch another film :D

What? Just use the inflight entertainment.

I pack all sorts of crap like a laptop full of films etc etc. I even went to the trouble of buying enough extended batteries that my laptop lasted an entire flight to Australia.

Guess what - never end up touching any of it. There is more than enough entertainment provided for you.

11 hours is only 3 decent films, a few TV eps, a few chats with the person next to you and 30 minutes of inflight magazine.

Pretty much this.

I'd be a lot more concerned about what to do on a 5 hour flight to Greece rather than 11 hours on a decent airline to the far east. Plenty of in flight entertainment to keep you busy. Unless you've seen all the recent films.. If you don't like films then take your own music / reading material.

Be thankful you don't have a second one.

Book and tablet with tv/films on it and some games. Or if it hasn't it inflight entertainment.
Watched 3films on the inflight entertainment from Perth-bkk, but bkk-lon had no inflight stuff. So tablet came in to it's own.

Also mp3 player with decent headphones.

And don't forget to drink plenty of liquids and not alcohol. God a hangover on a plane is not good. Damn you cockney.

I agree with Fox. The most boring part of flying to places like the USA isn't the long transatlantic flight to wherever the airline hub is, its the short flight between two American cities that comes after, where there's nothing to do in the plane.

Flying to Cyprus only took 4 hours and that was excruciating :p

Flew Monarch to Cyprus the other week, never again. I've flown Cyprus Airways all the other times and they are much better. Only saving grace of that trip was that it was Cyprus Airways on the way back....

Bet you'll get so excited that you won't be able to sleep.

First time I long hauled with work it was to go to India for a couple of month's... I slept for about 20 mins at the end of the flight - awake purely through excitement.

I drank through most of a bottle of port on the flight (complimentary... 1st class)... fell asleep on the descent... and woke up with a semi-awful hangover.

My first day with intro's to colleageus, meetings etc was awful.

If you are going to work the day you land... try and get some sleeping tablets/visit a coffee shop and make sure you sleep!

Good luck.... and enjoy the trip!

When I've flown to Japan and back I've normally found enough in the inflight entertainment to keep me occupied but I also take into account what time I will be getting there.

If arrival is late in the day then I will try to stay awake so that I am tired enough to get to sleep once I'm there. If I am landing in the morning I'll try and nap so I can attempt to stay awake the rest of the day once I arrive.

Seemed to help as I didn't have any jetlag issues whilst I was there.

The last flight I went on (Mongolia > Russia, Russia > UK) has NO INFLIGHT ENTERTAINMENT.

Nothing at all! Not even radio.

Even the air hostesses looked like shot putters.

Worst 12 hours ever
