Hi. I have a Blackberry 8900 which I have had for last 20 months on contract from Orange (I presume it will be locked to them)?

My sister is on 'o2' on 'pay as you go'

her phone is slowly starting to die.

Can someone advise me on the following.

Can I get my 8900 (Orange) unlocked for her to use on o2 and will she then be able to put her pay as you go SIM card in and it will work.

what about blackberry service. Anything she can have/do to get stuff on a pay as you go method?

any help would be great as do not know anything about 'pay as you go'

Just thought it would be nice to give the 8900 to her but even better if she had the blackberry service so she could send and receive e-mails and also use bbm.

Thank you.

Should be easy enough to get it unlocked and once it is sticking in the O2 SIM will allow her to make calls texts with it, it is possible to get the Blackberry Service from O2 on PAYG - it seems that if a customer tops up £15 a month they get Up to 500 UK texts, 500MB UK data plus BlackBerry email and unlimited Wi-Fi when you top-up £15 a month.

Phone up orange and get them to release the Blackberry PIN. When I tried to do this with T-Mobile it took ages to find someone who had any idea of what I was talking about.

Unlocking is easy enough and there are websites offering 99p unlocks.

Any idea of legit websites to use for this process.

Thank you

Ebay is fine for unlocks, just pick someone with 99% and >1000 deals and you'll be fine. They all give refunds if the code doesn't work too from my experience (approx 75+ phones). Make sure you do what ghost said though otherwise you can't get the BIS service on o2 and not having BIS turns this into an expensive dumb phone.

Ive never had to get in touch with tmobile to release my PIN...everytime ive put my sim in a new bb, it automatically changes over...you can also do it through the networks BIS portal.

Spoke to Orange they want £20 to unlock it. I shall have a look on that auction site then see if i can find a person who is able to unlock the 8900 from orange so it can be used on O2.

Correct, but if you do not use the old SIM in a new BB (and hence release the old PIN) then the old BB is tied to that old SIM. It won't release itself to another sim you might use in the old phone.

Any chance you can poine me in his direction?

Just go on ebay and search for "unlock 8900". There will be plenty of options, use a UK based seller with good feedback.

ok got the unlock code from someone on the auction site for £1.

My sister doesn't want to use bbm etc so she will just use it as a normal mobile phone.

thanks for your advice. Cannot believe networks like Orange charge you £20 for the unlock code.

Anyway. Popping it over to her this w/e. Hope the code works mind.
