Battlefield 3 thread - Server details in opening post -

if anything i think its going to get worse as everybody piles on at midnight tonight after heading into game / other brick and motor stores to pick up their copy.

That is the doubt nagging at me, i really hope it is ok, got to think positive;) I am not working tomorrow, so will have most of the day to play it.

btw, i have never heard of those shops! :p

i think its becoming obvious why EA staggered the release of this across countries

They've tried to balance the load placed on the Origin servers as people pre loaded, loaded, and did their release date checks etc..

The servers just can't handle the load, even with the staggering

Wonder what the sales figures are across all platform for the Week ? BF3blog was reporting they had over 3 million pre orders. So thats 3 million sold on launch day already. Plus those that just wander in and buy it on the day. I reckon they will easily have sold 5 million + units by monday.

you could argue they have a duty to not accept pre-orders over what they thought their servers could cope with ..

Couple of questions if I may?

1) Where are the 4 old school BF2 Islands that are supposed to have come with my pre-order?
2) What is the free gun and hat they speak of, what should I look for?

Having fun, getting dead lots mind.

God damn this is annoying!

This is a text book exercise in how not to launch a new service.

Especially one that everyone already hates!

Trouble is you don't know what the servers can take till you overload them.

Nobody can predict how well this sort of proprietary architecture is going to scale.

Only way is to let it loose in the wild and see what happens. Working in a data centre, i'd love to working for EA's data centre team this weekend. I bet the stats for the workload of the servers would make for great reading.

I thought you could simulate IP traffic etc to simulate Server load

otherwise you'd never know what size servers etc you'd need

you'd have to assume that a good proportion of pre-orders will attempt to activate at mignight of the given launch date ....

1) These maps are not out yet, I think towards the end of the year???

Can someone help me out here. I'm confused.

I'm pretty sure I read, a few hundred pages back, that the UK release date has now been changed and activation can now go ahead before the 28th

Question is? Has it really? Or was this just a complete internet myth?

My game passed release date check twice today, but failed to get into Battlelog.

I contacted EA Live chat and the guy said the game had unlocked globally this morning.

Obviously he was an idiot.

He must have thought I was an even bigger one when he asked for my CD key.

I didn't give it to him.

We're in the rollout of an electronic records system to the NHS at the minute, we were given a system by development that consisted of one Application Server the middle tier) a database server, a scheduler server and an emus server (emus handling integration with the clinical spine)

We were then told to scale that to handle the first 300 customers we'd be putting on it. Each of them with an average of about 20/30 users. so only about 100,000 users

We came up with a spec, and simulated the traffic etc.. but a year after release, the estimates were way off and we now have over 40 application servers where originally we though 10 would suffice :p

You can try and simulate this stuff, but its almost never right. And unless you've got money to burn, you don't over spec something.

Guys please can someone explain what is going on? Yesterday was fine but today I'm constantly getting "kicked by server admin" or "disconnected by server". Have followed forum threads and updated PB as instructed but it does nothing.

What is going on?

Its been like it for me since Tuesday. At least now I get an error message so, there is progress !

Lots of crashing for me too. Also, when I first join there is a black film over everthing, I have to alt-tab in and out to get rid of it. I thought it was just the crazy contrast at first...

does anyone else think the fact that the Karkland addon maps were a pre-order pre-order not made particularly obvious when ordering ?

they never said when they were released

Just said it included the DLC back to karkand at no extra cost.

They clarified in interviews when it was coming and stuff, but it wasn't in the headlines. People just assumed.
