I'll be buying a HTC Desire soon. Best ROM for it?

And by best I mean one that is fast and stable. It's doesn't have to be the fastest one for it as I prefer stability over speed.

What features do you want that aren't on the vanilla ROM?
There's little point just going for a modded ROM for the sake of it. I've tried loads and have ended up with the vanilla again!

CM7 is pretty stable, although I have slightly more issues with it now rather than when it was at stock.

Your very best bet is to spend about a week playing around with a few different types of roms. First to figure out if you want a sense rom or not, and then to find the rom that suits you :)

I'm currently using MIUI. Very smooth, and battery life is great. Although this is on a desire HD

*LeeDrOiD HD V3.3.3-Port-R5 with the sense 3 pack, nice quick and stable and decent battrey life.

If you dont like sence the just install a new launcher, launcher pro etc.

Miui XJ.

The best flavour of Miui available. Over the air updates, over the air themes. Fully customisable skins. Very stable. Runs fast. Good support. Looks very pretty!!

You should just type each ROM into youtube and decide for yourself. Try them all. That's what I did.

If your priority is stable and fast then go for Leedroid 3.0.8.2, 3.3 uses the new sense UI and the desire is a little slower with it.

Because I want one
I'll try oxygen,LeeDroid and Miui and decide which one I like best.
Cheers :D

To be honest with you, there's really not much difference in stability and smoothness between most roms. I've tried about 20 different roms for the desire HD and the main difference is the look.

All the sense roms I've found to be pretty similar, so if you find you like one sense rom, you'll probably like them all.

Watching the videos on youtube of various ROMS the new LeeDroid one looks pretty cool. Will try that first.

Fair enough, hope it's cheap... or free.
I don't have a contract so buy my phones and i'm not willing to pay £300+ for the latest phone. Can get a Desire for £100-150 from the bay.

I use InsertCoin on mine, great ROM. The later versions have been a little glitchy, but I use 1.1.3 instead of 1.1.4 as I find it a bit quicker and you don't have to worry about the kernel updates that snq- released for 1.1.4. Only problem with 1.1.3 is that attempting to USB tether reboots the device. :p

I can't say what's best but i can say that i've been on CM 7.03 for over 6 months now without any problems. Stable, good battery life, used the alpharev partitions (as above) so have lots of memory. Only down side is that the camera is a lot poorer than the sense one.
