New fence, Neighbour Problem.......

As a happy medium, what about a trellis with roses or honeysuckle growing on it? Within a year it will give you the privacy you want but not technically be a fence. They probably won't complain about it because it's pretty flowers.

Agree to a 4ft fence...

With 2ft worth of gravel board at the bottom.

Put up the fence you want, not everyone wants to see into the neighbours garden.

If your neighbour is a bit of an idiot there isn't anything you can do about that.

Check your title, it's rare, but some of them detail whose fence it is. Generally a party fence but not always.

Then because of him being a dick, put a fence up on your land - but don't lose too much of your garden ;)

In a Man City shirt preferably! :D

Ewwww, don't think I could stretch that far! :p

But yeah, back on topic...we have a fence around 6ft in our garden and it doesn't block light at all really (our garden isn't particularly big either). Don't know what they're bothered about.

Put up your 6ft fence. If you have to put it on the edge of your land so be it. It'll only take 6inches or so out of the depth of your garden. If they break it down get them for criminal damage.

All well and good, but if it's a party fence and they won't agree then he can't alter that.

Yep, but he can then build a six-footer immediately behind that one on his own land.

Issue there is, the neighbour has informed him that if he does so they will destroy it. Which would be an act of criminal damage.

Put your own fence up but before you do that get a graffiti artist in to do over the top two feet of the new fence on the side which is going to be facing the neighbour's garden. Make sure it's bad enough to irritate the hell out of them but not bad enough to be legally opposed.

I'm not sure which fence they've threatened to destroy.

The have a legal limit for a reason. Screw your neighbours put a fence up. If they don't like it they can grow a hedge or paint it green.

Right to light only applys to buildings, not gardens & a 6ft it wouldnt block light anyway.
So unless it would block out over 40% of the light entering their house then your fine.

As stated if you neighbour damages it, it would be an act of crimimal damage.

If you got money to burn, you could find out exactly where the boundry is via a survey & if their fence encroaches on you land get a solicitor to demand its removal. Arsy but it works :P
