335i M Sport v Infiniti G37

I cant take the facepalm anymore, can you just stop posting?

A 335i Sedan in the US is $42k. The base G37 is $36k. That is a difference of $6k and not $13k.

BMW don't even do a model called the 335i M Sport in the US, so what you are really doing is picking a 335, adding options packages to it and then moaning its $13k more than a base G37.

Yea, good one.

Either way what does it matter, we live in the UK. I have demonstrated that in the UK, the 335i Coupe is the SAME PRICE as a G37 Coupe. The SAME price. Thats PARITY. EQUAL.

You appear to have absolutely nothing of any value to add this thread, can you please focus your time on the equally futile task of arguing about the Integra instead?

Ive figured out the problem

A bit about each car.

BMW 335i M Sport

Im quoting prices for a M-Sport (as you called the car in your first post) and your not, hence why im getting $13k more and your getting $6k more.

You want me to explain how to read now as well?

Hint: stop thinking M Sport is the only trim available.

You are constantly using the price of the base Infiniti therefore you must use the base 335i not the top of the range one.

Ok my bad, the G37 with navigation pack like you had is only $8000 less than an M-Sport, that's hardly anything these days..

In the UK in coupe form they are about the same price.

Back later, off to A and E after repeatedly slamming my head against the desk.

Good write up.
However, I recently visited the Infiniti garage in Reading and the level of service was superb; much better than I have received in any BMW garage, or any other garage for that matter.
I'll also join the bandwagon and confirm that the E92 build quality is crap. I have been severely dissapointed since owning my car.

Two of the main reasons I sold my E92 M3.

Dealer after sales was awful. It took almost a month to rectify a scratch they put in my paint while installing their own OEM carbon spoiler and to clean up their awful install. On top of that, my right rear wheel was repainted 3 times to attempt to fix the clear coat peeling; which of course kept happening and they refused to replace the wheel.

After only 2k miles my interior was rattling worse than my 44k mile 997 or even my old VX220T! The leather was wearing badly too on the drivers seat which is off given I condition the leather and never wear clothing that could damage it.

It made changing to the GTR that much easier after seeing how the M3 fans rave about the awesome interior quality as if it were a Bentley, only to be severely let down.

I could live with a HUD, as long as it was 'turn-offable' in case it started to annoy me. Good write up as ever.

You can turn it off (switch on dashboard) but why bother when you never have to look at the speedo again. I never have.

As a point of ...interest, my old 540i ...which was nowhere near as nice as Fox's 530i and was a few years older ...did not have any interior rattles or squeaks. It had that hewn from really solid stuff feel to it that left us with the E46 ...the E38 had it too.

Looks like things are improving a lot though inside the new range.

Service between dealerships and franchises vary hugely, but i dont think its a case of Brand X is great and Brand Y is crap.

On my search for the right car, ive spent lengthy amounts of time at BMW in Swindon, Hungerford, Odiham, Reading, Guildford and Farnborough. Odiham was for me the worst then Guildford, and Farnborough was miles in front as the best. They were attentive, helpful, keen for me to test drive (taking me on a good route and encouraging me to open the car up) the followed up with what i consider to be fairly neutral good finance advice, and followed up with me in a good way.

From my experience, dont write off a brand due to a bad dealer, infact it can be a case of you just speak to a bad salesperson, just find someone else or go to another dealership.

The first thing I did when I opened this thread was word count the post. I thought my 6,000+ word throne was taken. Fear not, this wasn't even close. You lied.

I think I have written a few posts longer than Fox's ...only without pictures which probably made them seem longer than they really were. I don't think I've gotten anywhere near 6000 though :p

Rather underwhelming to read that Infiniti interior is so poor, would have thought they would be up to scratch with the best I'm sure thats what I read of the European versions???

Would be interesting to see also how the beemer coupe stacks up against the g37 coupe. I think in the looks department the g37 coupe looks more classy.

the uk spec saloon also seems to look better then the us counterpart

I do enjoy your car reviews Fox - you certainly have a (wasted?) talent here!

You describe your 335i in the past tense - have you gotten rid of it already? Mind if I ask why - did it fail to live up to your expectations of the brand?

He sold it in order to buy the collection of Vauxhalls shown in his sig. On finance. From Carcraft. With optional Supaguard paint protection.

I enjoyed the review Fox, thanks for the great effort.

Just a question. You said:

Unlike the G37, where the coupe is pretty much styled as the Saloon but with less doors, the 3 Series Coupe is quite different to the saloon

I think that the G37 coupe looks very different from the sides. They've definitely not just ripped the doors off and slammed windows, but the side panels are unique. I think that it slightly resembles the 350z.

I agree on your thoughts about the interior though, the G37 interior seems to be pretty boring compared to the 335i.

Good job once again!

Why did you only have the 335i for 3 months?

Firstly, some background behind the purchase.

I bought my 530i in 2006 after many years of coveting an E39 Sport. Remember Gone in 60 Seconds? All those fantastic cars. Everyone has a favourite, most people loved the 67 Shelby GT500 most. Me? The detectives 99 E39 540i :D

The drive home from the sellers house was one I'll remember for a very long time. I was absolutely overwhelmed with how great it was and how pleased I was in every way with the car. It was just awesome.

Fast forward 5 years and my 4 year old E39 was no longer a 4 year old E39. Infact it wasn't far off 10 years old but it was still costing the sort of money to run you'd associate with an expensive prestige saloon. I had no need to be driving around in an old BMW. I did the maths and actually, upgrading to a nearly new BMW with a full warranty was barely any more expensive. It made perfect logical sense to replace it with something newer and more modern that would give me another 5 years enjoyment.

But what? I couldnt like the E60 no matter how much I tried and I couldn't afford an F10 without taking out a whopping loan or a stupid PCP or something. Enter the E92. On paper, the ideal replacement. Same fuel economy as the E39. Loads of kit. Good looking. Quick. I test drove a few and found them to be great fun to drive. Plastics felt ok. Job done!

Ideal.

I searched for a few months, found the ideal example, made a stupid offer, they accepted and that was that. I was on my way to collect my 335i M Sport, looking forward to that fantastic drive home I'd experienced 5 years earlier with my E39.

But that drive home just.. felt like a drive home. Sure it was a nice car but.. it was just a car. A very good car infact but a car all the same. Where was the magic? It was obvious something didn't feel right as I couldnt even be bothered to post a 'look at my new car' thread on OcUK.

As the weeks rolled by it became clear what the problem really was. As great as the 335i is, it isn't a 5 Series. And I'm a 5 Series person. I love the blend of waftyness and sportiness that seems to suit me so perfectly but which was missing from the 335i. I realised that all I really truely loved about the car was the engine and the Nav system. I began to focus on the negatives. More rattles. Irritating ride. Grr another rattle. Where was the solid, refined BMW feel I loved?

I couldnt see myself keeping the car for 5 years and being as satisfied with it as I was the E39. I'd replaced a fantastic car because it was 'old' and because it wouldnt cost much more to have a newer one. An entirely financially motivated change, I guess.

Not because I really *wanted* a new car. Did it really matter that much how old a car was, surly as I've preached on these forums on numerous occasions its all about condition? My E39 remained in the condition it was when I bought it - that is virtually immaculate, far more so than any 9 year old car had any right to be. My main complaint and advice on here about not buying older cars was all about not BUYING older cars. I wasn't BUYING an older car, I was owning one that I'd owned since it was much younger. Perhaps thats different..

So in the end I decided I'd stick the 335i up for about what I paid (Tried my luck at a tad more first :D), drive around in it for a few months, and move it on having enjoyed the summer in what is still a fantastic car. I sold it last month - so everything went perfectly according to plan in the end.

I'm now back in the E39 and absolutely loving it. It will stay until my preferred budget buys a really nice F10, the car I always should have waited for, or until I finally crack and buy a £10k M5. Any regrets? Not at all actually. I got to play with a 335i for the summer and discover what really mattered to me when it came to cars.

So looks like it'll be around for a few more years yet - and who gives a stuff how old it is. Robbie G does, but I certainly dont. It remains one of my most favourite cars of all time and I'll waste as much as it takes to keep it nice :) The 335i is a great car, but the E39 5 Series is one of the very greatest BMW have ever made.
