I am thinking about going out in London with my cousin on a Sat next month.

ill get the train up from Exeter.

We plan to stay in a hotel.

Roughly, how much would I need for a day out and evening in London?

I no you will prob say depends what you do and where you stay.

are we looking at more then £300?

We will prob go out for lunch somewhere and see 1 or 2 attractions then bars and clubs in the evening.

any info would be really appreciated

also, can anyone recommend any hotels? Not too expensive

I think £300 will be more than enough. Travelling around london on public transport (tube/bus) doesn't cost that much. Of course this depends if you're going to be doing any shopping or anything that costs a lot of money.

Have a look at a place called the London Guards Hotel, I always stop there when I go down and you're looking at around £80 for the night, you're right next to lancaster gate tube station and directly opposite hyde park.

On the night i'd just head to Leicester Square then there's plenty of places to eat and drink and if you get bored you can take a quick walk over to Covent Garden for more bars.

I'd personally recommend going to the Comedy Store which is in Leicester Square and is right next to a TGI Fridays so you can grab a few drinks/ fod before you head in. There's a great bar in Covent Garden too called Roadhouse and they usually have a live band on too.

£300 should more than cover the day.

Get to London early morning, check in hotel.

Go to the shops, posh part of london?

Go for lunch, even if its nandos! :D

Maybe go to see a few atractions, dont have a clue what tho, ice bar?

back to hotel get ready, maybe food before then town.

We dont want to go to cheap bars, but not £20 a cocktail bar, then 2 a few clubs

Ice bar is overrated imo. Plus you are restricted to 40 minutes when you are in there.

For me, I would do something like this;

Pick a hotel somewhere central: arrive, go to hotel, dump bags. Find a tube station and go to:

Green park tube, up Bond street, across Oxford Street and down Regent Street to Picadilly Circus, through to Leicester Square and then on to Covent Garden. With a bit of stopping and shopping its time for lunch, eat in Covent Garden, Wahaca is nice (mexican).

From here walk to Trafalgar Square, down the Mall to Buckingham Palace, down to Parliament Square, see Westminster etc. (optional run across the river for a trip on the London Eye at this stage), up Whitehall and see Downing Street, back up to Trafalgar Square and then go to Charing Cross tube.

Tube back to the hotel, check in, ****, shower and shave, and get back out.

Cocktails somewhere nice before dinner, Mark's Bar (in Soho, Picadilly) is a fave, dinner somewhere, Bocca Di Lupo (Italian in Soho) is good, ask to sit at the bar in front of the chefs for a little dinner theatre. After this hit up some Soho bars, try Graphic, Floridita or the Experimental Cocktail Club.

Might sound a little mad but the route makes some sense, Soho is a good place to spend a night out and is less touristy than Covent Garden. Don't make the usual tourist mistake of going to Covent Garden/Leicester Square and spending you time there, they have some appeal but its very limited.

As for costs, hotels will be £100-£150 a night, £20-30 for lunch, £50 for dinner, most cocktail bars are £8ish a drink, so £300 should see you with a train ticket.
