I am on the market for a graphics card & am in a real predicament as to whether to choose one for the nVidia 570 or 580 range.

Is there such a big difference in performance & graphic quality & is it worth spending the extra?

I don't mind spending the money on a good graphics card as i know i can always use it when i upgrade my system but at the same time don't want to waste money.

Any help & points in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanks.
Lee.

I don`t really know the awnser to your question bud but i think that your cpu would seriously bottleneck a 580. My bro used to have the same cpu but with a 5970 and it used to bottleneck that somebody told him. He did notice a big difference when he kept the 5970 but upgraded his cpu.

Edit: duh i actually have the cpu i mentioned in my awnser..........its like yours but itstead of at 2.6 mines at 3.0 and it seriously bottlenecked a 5970.
I cannot say it definatly would bottleneck a 580 or a 570 but i think it will the 580 but im sure some here would know more than me.

The problem i have is that i don't have a gfx card at the moment because my GTX8800 blew up in smoke for some reason. I am currently using one a friend borrowed me until i purchased one & he will be expecting it back soon.

So are you saying i would be wasting money buying a 580 because of my CPU?

Oh thats unfair :(

Bottlenecks dont really matter then if you need a new card, but a GTX 580 would be overkill in your system and held back a lot.

Just re-read the op
you did say m8 that you could always use a 580 if/when you upgraded your system so a bottleneck not really a big issue if you are upgrading any time soon.

As for the question as to whether a 580 is a lot better than a 570 i have no idea m8 but sure someone here will tell you details about that.

If it was me in the op`s situation i would wait for the next generation 28nm cards and buy something cheap but functional for now, unless of course you just cannot play at a lower detail or something for a little while.

your cpu would hold back either card.

but if you bought a 580 it would stil be better than a 570

the 580 is allot better than the 580 hence the price.

if you upgraded your cpu you would see a massive performance increase

Get a 560Ti for now for half the price of a 580 and it won't bottleneck your system, especially not if you OC up to 3.2GHz or 3.6GHz. Then save the rest and get a new CPU in a year or so?

560Ti will run all new games pretty much at max settings across the board (unless you're at a ridiculous resolution with 4xMSAA on).

Can you overclock your cpu? Those cpu's can usually get to 3.4ghz and above on a decent motherboard.

What is your resolution as the higher it is the less your cpu will hold you back.

power supply?

I'd be thinking 560Ti unless convinced otherwise.

Personally i would take a 6950 2gb over a 1gb ti. Theres a good few games hitting the 1gb barrier atm and bf3 is one of them from what i have seen. It really makes no sense to buy a 1gb card atm if you are using 1080p or above.

I still get on fine atm though with my 1gb 6870 but not sure how much longer that will last at 1920x1200 resolution.
