Beat this pay rise!

Public sector

£10k rise :p

Because I'm worth it. Admittedly they've brought me back under a new title, but doing the same job. Fear not though... I'm the only person in the building who actually gets things done, public sector people = lazy.

I had a £3,500/year rise this year.

Whilst that sounds like a decent increase, it's barely noticable month on month.

Your pay rise is about a grand short of my earnings this year so far :(

But then again I'm part time McDonalds XD (did 5 months summer 45h/wh tho)

I got a 4.4% rise last month to an astonishing..... £5.37 an hour.

Beats the folk on £4.94 however. I get the best payrise (yes 4.4% is the highest it goes :/) because I make the chips

I love being in a Union - 5% pay rise and £800 lump sum :-)

I've just been told europe have been sticking their noses in again and I can only work 60 hours a week. That means I loose time and a half and double time pay so I've took a pay cut :-(

Why on earth would you want to work 60hrs a week? I've gone P/T to 30hrs a week and it's still too much tbh.

I assume you have now family/hobbies/social life?

Work to live, not live to work.

Not only have we had a paycut but I've been told I have to take on the responsibilities of another persons job who has just retired. When I queried a pay review for now being responsible for looking after two vital IT systems I was told don't ask, you're either doing it or could open yourself up to the next round of possible redunancies.

But I work in the public sector so you can all start insulting me.

Is it not possible to have a family/hobbies/social life and also work 60 hours per week? You'd have to be frightfully inefficient to struggle.

168hrs in a week.

52 of those are for sleep (8hrs a night), add 60 hrs work that leaves 56 hrs. 1 hr a day for evening food prep/eating and 1 hr for breakfast/wash so take 14 hrs off 56hrs leaving 42 hrs.

So, 42 hrs to socialise/relax/spend with family vs working for 60 hrs? Doesn't sound very balanced to me.

Got 3% on 1st Ooctober and we get another 3% in January, My rises works out at just shy of £800 before tax over the course of a year

I think we will see more of these split rises, based on markets, company performances etc

Its tough out there, people taking no payrise when inflation is 3% is a lot harder than taking no rise when its 6% and after a few years the impact is quite marked.

I really think most people are looking for stability probably at worse wages than risk with higher wages right now. So people aren't leaving jobs and are sitting pretty relying on last in first out etc to try to "protect" their job.
So the competition for vacancies is often between people out of a job. This overall situation leads to very little wage inflation.
I strongly believe we will see quite a job market shake up when we do eventually get back to a feel good economy. People will take their grudges and look for new jobs, typically in those kind of markets you see some genuine wage inflation and this drags the average wage up.
Companies are much more ready with the cheque book for new starts than existing employees typically.
