Anti virus software really needed for android phone?

I'm finally getting my first android phone an SG 2. Upgrading from a nokia 5800, do you really need av software on a smart phone? Never did on my nokia, are they targeted as much as windows pcs. Any advice would be great.

Are mobiles likely to be infected by trojans, worms or malware like pcs can while surfing the net without av or firewall ? Afterall same net. A pc would soon get infected without any protection.

yes i would recommend to get one as malware now hit all smartphone and tablets as im using webroot internet for my sgt 10.1 and read this

dont ingore it... it can harm your phone or tablet without u know... it happen to phone, computer,,etc... it still plenty of other way to create attack

Yes, malware does exist for mobile devices but the chances of you having problems with it are very slim.

You're a fool to use AV on a phone/tablet unless you're someone that loves to spam install apps you've downloaded from any number of awful/dodgy websites.

You would have to be brain dead to fall for this stuff, all major OS encapsulation means it tells you what it can do when you install it so if that app that reminds you to do stuff suddenly requires "Access to send SMS, read to USB, make calls" etc... surprisingly it's not such a good idea.
