You know what would complete that post, Fox? Some pictures of your lovely motor :D You really know how to sell the E39 range to everyone on these boards!

and who gives a stuff how old it is

This is exactly what I've come to realise over the years. Who cares that a car is old. If it's the right car for you then it's the best car to get. In fact you can get some superb deals on cars that people want to move on for no other reason than they are worried their neighbour thinks they can't afford a newer car.

Sure. They are a hard sell now because they make absolutely no sense as a used purchase - who wants a 9 year old car that costs the same to own as a much newer car - but I think they are great.

I never been a fan of BMW's but that looks amazing for 9 year old car.

I think the front of the E39 is looking a bit dated now, but the rear just looks absolutely awesome. I think the front of the E46 Sport has faired better and still looks quite fresh IMO!

E46 Sport front + E39 Sport rear = :D

I especially like the E39 in space grey (is that an E39 colour?) - i see one most mornings (always very clean) and with the Xenon's on it does look pretty damn cool.

The fundamentals of the coupe are the same as the sedan.

I thought the coupe was more 'tuned' up to be more sport and dynamic.

Anyway lovely E39 always loved that model, and it hasn't aged too bad either imo,

Prefer the E39 front, no angel eyes on an e46.

That colour is Sterling Grey.

Beautiful car.

Makes me think about my own car history, how many I have had in the time you've kept just the one great car. I have so many car regrets yet I think you really don't have any eh? ...I think it all started with me letting the E46 330CI Sport go. C'est la vie.

Good review fox, I've never really been a fan of the G37's styling, especially the interior which comes across a little bland. Either way both cars are out of my price range LOL.

Drives well and nice and pokey (mines the RWD model). Actually seems to handle too which helps as the roads are much better in Texas than NJ.

It seems to pull really well from low down to me, although i guess you are comparing to a 335i which is awesome with the low pressure turbos. The NA advantage of the G37 doesnt really help when you have 'autobox kick down lag' although sport mode does help.

Wouldn't mind trying out the 370Z when I'm back in UK

I've always found them quite intriguing, but when honestly I don't think I would ever buy one over a 3 series equivalent.

Didn't want to start a new thread, but for £15k you can get quite a high spec G37 convertible with the 7 speed auto and the 370Z engine. Too much money?

Yes, you can buy a 335i for the same money and it's just better.

These might make sense once they are sub £10k.

I'd still be interested in driving one to see what it's like. The N54 is a great engine, but the E92 has never impressed me from a build quality point of view.
