Battlefield 3 - odd one out?

Since this is a PC-ish forum, how do I convince my friends to get BF3 on their PC's instead of on consoles, FPS'ers are supposed to be played on PC's but they don't see it like that, they're all PS3 gamers, who think the PS3 is the ultimate gaming machine lol

Get new friends :o

I showed my friend BC2 on PC and he bought it for his laptop and just bought an i5 GTX580 setup for BF3.

He said that the community on PC was just so much better online than on 360 that it made games like BF actually fun.

Would get it but a) it costs £30 and after spending £1200 on a new setup im slightly broke and b) I don't have a headset :(

Does look pretty sweet though, probably get it for christmas :D

So you don't use Steam?

I think you missed the bit where Origin does absolutely nothing other than download the game. The only games that require Steam use Steamworks which is good and essential for running the game. Origin does nothing and offers nothing yet I am forced to use it? I think not!

I wanted to post in a thread about how I didn't have BF3 but I think my post might just get lost in this thread so I might start another one.

Waiting for the day when I can be bothered to reformat my hard drive before I think about buying Battlefield 3. Isn't high on my list of things to do.

No, Origin is required to actually run the game. It's just online DRM much like Steam. Steam is obviously far superior but the mentality of "I don't wanna install a program to run a game" when they almost certainly have steam running in the background is obviously retarded :) If they were to say "I don't wanna install another steam-like program" or "I don't wanna install that buggy POS" then that's very understandable.

Those two things too. But I also do not like having my hand forced. Thats why it was years before I finally succumbed to HL2 or any other Steamworks game by which time Steam was awesome. As it stands I fail to see why Origin is required when Battlelog exists?

If it was on Steam that would be acceptable because I already own a ****tonne of games on there, but installing a needless program for ONE game? No thanks. Besides the fate of Origin will be decided in the next couple of weeks with Batman coming out. I predict stormy weather.

I guess you make a good point about battlelog. I can only assume that it relies on some functionality provided by Origin. Otherwise you're right I can't really see its purpose as battlelog would "know" you own a legitimate copy.

By the way there's rumours of BF3 being released on Steam in the near future so the possibility of avoiding Origin is realistic.

Lets hope those rumours come to fruition. As I have said before in other threads, I really cannot see EA turning down the opportunity for more sales/money especially when they have put so much into squaring up against MW3 they need all the help they can get.

And if the rumours are true and Origin bombs due to EAs pricing of third party content then I'll be laughing.

Thought you wanted the game to run without an external program? Steam and Origin are identical.

No I want the game to run without me having to install a useless program for ONE game. I have already been forced onto Steam but that was by many many good games. I will not be forced onto another by one good game that doesnt even need it.

Maybe in the future (If Origin lives that long) when there are lots of great games that require Origin and need it and use its functionality (of which it appears to have none compared to Steam ATM) then I will install it.
