Hi all,

We currently have sky unlimited broadband in our student house and get about 10mbs download and 0.6 mbs upload which is fine for general internets use, iplayer etc.

However I can't play battlefield 3 online unless it's well into the night and no one else is using it  . I can join servers but i just rubber band all over the place and the game is unplayble.

I can't go around telling people to stop their torrents, downloads etc. since we all chip in the same amount and It'd be a bit of a stropy thing to do anyway.

So my question is, can i somehow ninja the router settings so I get a sort of priority for gaming? Wouldn't wan't to hog all the download bandwidth or anything, just change it so I get a consistently decent ping for BF3.

Failing that, is it possible to get two seperate internet connections from sky? I'd be happy to pay an extra £20 a month or something to be able to play games online in the evenings.

Cheers!

You would need to get a 2nd phone line installed from BT for sky broadband. Maybe ask them to limit the max d/l speed during the day and then uncapped at night

Had the same problem when I shared a house. The only real solution is to ask people to download overnight. In fact, if there is a lot of you, maybe the solution is to have a central server, with scheduled downloading set up. Then people add their downloads and then they are there in the morning. Plus, whatever is downloaded is accessible to all.

Had a good search and it doesn't unfortunatly :( Guess I'm screwed.

Buy another router which does have QoS support.
EDIT:
Can't you get Virgin Media to your student house? Then you can just buy cable internet from them, whilst the others have the ADSL Internet from Sky, can't you?
