Prediction - if and when I buy 2 Gb Kepler cards, mr. Harmony will be rejoicing that my purchase is proof that 1 Gb vram is bad.

There won't be any. You did tell mr jen hsung huang not to bother like Harmony told us to right?

If i had the money i would probably be the same.

:D
If I had the money... oh wait - I do:D:p

I think you and harmony should set up a charity boxing match between you 2 to settle this, i would book tickets now. I can feel the venom from here.

If forum names are anything to go by then my money's on you.

Thats called having the joy of shared ram in every single PC.

99% of users complaining about Vram have no idea what this is, nor do they notice that going from 1 Gb to 3 Gb dedicated Vram barely ever means getting better performance (definitely still not the case at 1920x1200).

People who think that amount of Vram has any direct correlation to performance or FPS couldnt be more mistaken.

There are only two games out there on the PC market that seem to be unable to properly utilize shared ram - Shogun 2 and GTA 4. This does not mean that only having 1 Gb Vram isnt enough for 1920x1200 resolution, this simply means that these games are simply terribly optimized.

All these threads, posts and whining over Vram, and not one single post or thread can show me any improvement gains from 2 Gb Geforce GTX 560 tis over 1 Gb Geforce GTX 560 tis, the only thing that Harmony ever does is prove that a single GTX 570 or 580 > a single GTX 560. ZOMG, like therefore it must be 100% due the Vram!

ok so 3gb 580 gtx version eat just more vram that it needs for nothing? i thought it could be improve texture loading on bf3 (rage for sure for example for 16k) and better min fps but worst max fps compared to the 1.5fb version. So there isn't lag spike or stuttering when the vram max is used ?

I did notice it runs noticeably smoother on my 6950 compared to my 5850.

Maybe thats just the extra tessy power of the 6900's though.

Probably right, as well as improved effiency over the 5000 series. It's kind of like achieving better performance at something, but with less required effort.

I dont notice any lag spikes or stuttering so long as my FPS remains over 40.

I dont notice any lag spikes or stuttering when Vram exeeds 1 Gb and needs to be offloaded into shared ram.

I dont notice lag spikes from running SLI.

If you do see a lag spike, there is absolutely no way that you can tell that they are definitely caused by Vram. As for BF3, I dont know how many times I have to post the benchmarks before people will get it - a 1280 Mb GTX 570 runs BF3 at 40+ FPS comfortably. There is no performance difference due to Vram between a 1280 Mg GTX 570, and a 1.5 Gb GTX 480 / 580, so I dont understand on what basis you can possibly assume that a 3 Gb GTX 580 is going to improve performance for you in BF3 due to Vram alone, other than simply thinking 'More Vram must do something', when the fact is that in over 95% of gaming scenarios, more Vram does zippo, zilch, nada, absolutely NOTHING to boost performance.

Also some of these problems in rage are known to have been a bug and fixed via patching.

People's been saying of graphic card might use more VRAM if available, but not necessarily need them?

There are lots of games use above 1GB of VRAM, but the performance different is just 0-3fps between the...say 6950 1GB and 6950 2GB.
