Battlefield 3 thread - Server details in opening post -

Unfortunately I have not really enjoyed this game unexpectedly. After around 15 hours, I think I have decided I've had enough of this game for the time being.

Performance - I think the graphics are good. Although they possibly have the potential to be great due to the limitations of my current system i.e. not DX11 and not fully maxed out (all except one item is on high). I have not found a successful set-up without having to compromise on image quality for a good average frame rate and non-flickering greenness that appears from time to time. I shall wait until a patch and a few drivers come out.

Gameplay - What teamwork? In all the servers I have been playing in. No one sticks together in their squad nor does anyone make any attempt at some sort of basic strategy to win. Chance, stupidity or lack of concentration from the enemy team or both, good players crowding over to the other team seem to determine who wins a round in this game. Because of this and the following, I find the game frustrating and quite simply boring. On Battlefield Bad Company 2 for example and other non-prioritized-teamwork games I find it quite possible to be the lone wolf by not camping and having fun at the same time. I do not find the BF3 experience satisfactory. The game seems to penalize not camping in my opinion.

So until the game gets upgraded in terms of performance patch and Back to Karkand maps which I hope I will enjoy more or new drivers come out or indeed by the next time I upgrade my computer, and lastly if I am not in some sort of proper team, I can't find myself playing this game for very long because of the reasons above.

What does everyone else think about this?

I've gone for the same setup as you - graphics on high to keep good framerates. Personally, I think it looks great - sharp and clear. I'm having trouble telling who's who at the moment, the colours seem quite washed out.

Teamwork: I agree, but it's a bit like a kids' football game - everyone charging round blindly after the ball :) you've got to remember that for most people, they maybe only get the odd hour or two to play - I've maybe got 2 hours in total since release. So, most people have no idea where they're going, which ways the maps ebb and flow. I've just been trying to tag along with someone who's going somewhere, to try and help him. Then I shoot at someone, die, and go off running about again.

I'm personally enjoying this "Wow, this is mental" period - once I know the maps, I'll never get that feeling back.

Get owned of any decent enemy pilots or mobile AA cannons, and it's not deadly on full HP tanks, you won't get a disable on a tank even if all 14 pods hit.

You will disable the tank if you hit it with all your rockets, and then you finish it off with the cannon, or a 2nd batch of rockets.

I'm glad someone agrees with me. I felt I was a good jet pilot in BF2, but I'm better in BF3. I haven't spent a great dealof time in them, but when I do I seem to do well. As long as you get control, and remain in control of the skies, you can seriously rape.

Add me to battelog if you want: LongbowUK

I'm at 109 jets kills, with all the unlocks, but I need a good wingman. Perhaps one of use goes air to air, and one goes air to ground.

Must say the Overclockers server is class, really nice to have a good server on fav's, had some great games on there last night, saw a number of you about, however need to get my knife skills going, major lack of dog tags claimed so far

you talking about rush fire-storm? I took out 10 tanks on that map without dieng the the whole game went 12-0

Not in a jet you didn't.

Come up against decent players in jets and mobile AA with unlocks and you will change your tune. The game has just come out, once players get the OP mobile AA unlocks jets ground attacking are seriously done for.

He's right though, the commo rose doesnt work so there's no point it being there!

No point whatsoever, it's embarrassing it was release in that state.

Mine works

So when you request a pickup other players are notified of this? nope. There is no mini map indication or on screen prompt that you requested anything, other plays can't even hear you, the most useful rose commands to request a medic and ammo are not even there. So yeah it does not work.

The binding is awful. In SP the quicktime events make me press SPACE even though I've bound jump elsewhere.
Can't bind mouse buttons to anything at all. A bug that was around in the beta!

In MP, I rebound spot to delete, when I press that nothing happens. However if I hold it down the comorose appears (so it's definitely bound). If I press Q it spots, even though Q isn't bound to anything.

Really terrible UI tbh.

Nope. Spotting (Q) - rebinding doesn't work. Enter vehicle (E) rebinding doesn't work.

Completely broke my helicopter setup trying to bind my joystick correctly. Sometimes even clearing a bind doesn't work either.

Why are so many people saying the maps are too small? Some of the maps are massive are they not?

They're big, but some maps centralise the action and the rest of the map is empty space, if that's the way the maps are going to be, then we need more vehicles on the ground, rather than like 2 tanks and a jeep, could have some brilliant battles with that empty space.

Tried rebinding my 360 pad for the jets and it totally ruined it so had to reset to the weird default setting of flying with the right thumb stick. Probably the only thing that bugs me in the game.

Caspian and firestorm are supposed to be the biggest but there are out of bounds areas for players that reduce the size of the map a lot. What's the point of having big maps if all the control points are clustered together, 50% of the map never gets touched.

Yeah they could easily of spread out the points on firestorm a lot more,

One of the points could have been over to the right of D where the big oil tanks are, theres nothing out there but those tanks and you can roam aruond there as none of it is out of bounds.

Seems strange they decided to contain all the points to the mid of the map and then D/E on the left side :(
