So I just bought a bit of networking gear from a US site, as its half the price I can find it in the UK (but the same price as a lot of other US sites, so not too good to be true) and I will be making a trip there in a couple of weeks anyway.

I paid using my credit card (Mastercard if it matters) and am having it shipped to a friends place.

The company has emailed me, highlighting that I am a customer from outside the USA (or more relevantly my card) and that I need to fill in a form which includes a picture of the front and back of my CC along with photo ID.

To me this seems quite odd to say the least, I have made small purchases to sites in the US before without any such problem, and am concerned that they would have a copy of my card essentially. I guess its no more information than I have given them already though?

Thoughts? Advice? I know with a CC its protected to some extent, but would like to avoid any unnecessary hassle!
 
This isn't unusual in the USA for high value items.

I hear in some places, you need one form of ID to buy a gun, but two to pay for it by check. It's interesting who has what incentives to care about what mistakes.
 
Ah ok, my paranoia is unfounded then, I asked them if there is any other way to pay such as paypal to avoid them keeping my details. Will see what happens.

Was a bit of Ubiquiti kit, $91 all in £105 over here!
 
^^ Hes not having it delivered to the UK.

Its usual, make sure you blank out the CVV, all they want to know is you have the CC physically in your possession and not just using the details of one obtained via phishing, etc.
 
They also ask on the form for the CVV, I have changed it to PayPal to avoid any issues.

Thata a lot of info, but checking its not a scam is never a bad idea. Never know these days. Not something i've heard of. Atleast you would have been covered as its a CC
