Hi, all, since my last venture iv managed to get my i7 stable @ 3.8ghz with HT ON (Prime 95 24hrs). Unfortunatly I cannot for the life of me get it stable at 4ghz with HT OFF and all other features OFF, it needs a whole 1.4V just to start running IBT before freezing or crashing. Iv seen others hitting 4ghz with just 1.275V and yes I know every chip/board etc is different but really, that far apart different in voltages?.
Do i really have a crap i7 920 D0???

Current Settings for 3.8 with HT ON
CPU - i7 920 D0
Board - Asus rampage II Extreme
Cooler - Corsair H50 Push/Pull
DDR 1451mhz (currently downclocked from 1600mhz) - corsair xms3 classic 8.8.8.24 1.65v,
Ratio - 21
BCLK - 181
CPU Voltage - 1.325 (prime unstable anything lower)
CPU Differential Amplitude - 800mV
CPU PLL - 1.88217
QPI/DRAM - 1.29375
IOH Voltage - 1.20616
ICH Voltage - 1.20616
Dram Voltage - 1.65681.

Any help and advice would be much much appreciated;).
Thanx in Advance.

^ that. from what i've read, asus boards seem to prefer even multi's, so try with 20 and gradually bring down the voltage(s) until you reach instability, then carry on from there :)

Have you tried upping the qpi/dram bus voltage, and uncore clock should be 2x your ram speed +1, ie 2 x 1451 + 1 = 2903. Strangely ive found my p6t dlx v2 to be a bit easier to clock on the 21x multi, 20x 200 needed a jump in vcore from 21x 193, and an increase on qpi voltage as well.

When i had my Rampage II Extreme it hated clocking on even multi's but loved odd multi's, i couldn't seem to get anywhere on a 20x multi but a 21 multi worked wonders.

I'm with setter, small bump in qpi voltage. Try 1.35v.

+1

Also dont run the un core too high.
If you have it on auto change to manual and set it yourself.
Also some of the 920's dont like the BCLK set too high.

Try 200x20, remember to turn off turbo boost or you will be running at 4.2 under load.
Set the uncore to 17x if your ram is set to 8x (1600).

If that doesn't work out drop the BCLK down to 191 and run at 21x.

Also some 920's have weak memory controllers, if whilst running IBT on high/very high you get reboots suspect the memory controller.
One of my 920's does this and i get round it by dropping the mem volts to 1.575 or running the 6x ram multi with a 200Mhz BCLK.
