Had a few advisorys on the astra this mot 2 are straight forward things,

Nearside Front Tie bar/rod has slight play in a ball joint / Offside Front Tie bar/rod has slight play in a ball joint.

how much would you think for a garage to do them or are they easy enough to do yourself? im quite happy doing normal service stuff like oils and filters and have done the od brake pad change. the other one that came up was Parking brake lever has little reserve travel. now the handbreak holds the car fine and has about 6 clicks or so of travel and then its hard to pull it anymore but im not sure what it means ive looked at the drums and there fine with loads left on them, does it just need adjusting?
 
Bout £25 each.........pure guess. As for the handbrake perhaps it just needs adjusted, look around the handbrake console for an access point and tighten the bolts. Could be the cable is a bit stretched.

"needs to be adjusted". This drives me insane. :mad:

Do not adjust the handbrake cable until you are certain the automatic adjusters within the drums is working, they very often seize up. People seem to have little or no understanding of handbrakes and often just wind the cable adjuster up without realising they are stopping the automatic adjusters from operating properly.

He's referring to your grubby grammar. There's no such phrase as 'needs adjusted' in this context.

Anyway OP these aren't the hardest jobs to DIY, but it depends whether or not you have the right tools and a Haynes Manual or equivalent. Also most MOT places only allow a certain amount of time between fail and free re-test...can you source the parts and do the work in this time?
 
more or less true tbh, the arent failures and therefore the retest time limit mentioned doesnt apply here.

also i cant seem to spell yet this morning.
 
I personally wouldnt wait a year to fix it.

The advisory indicates that the part needs attention and that car will most likely fail on this when it is next tested which will be in roughly a years time.

Just wanted to highlight that if OP has the ability to fix the issue then he has time to do so.

Shoot me ! Im sure the OP understood exactly what i was saying. Im so glad we have grammar experts here to put us right when we get it so wrong.
