Until this morning, I have been using some an old USB 5.1 headset, but one of the arms broke, so I'm wondering what my options are.

I have a P8 Z68 V Pro motherboard, but I've seen other suggest getting a separate sound card, such as -

I like the simplicity of a USB headset though, are they generally lower quality?

It's been a while since I used a headset not through USB, do I have to get down behind my PC each time to switch between speakers and headset?

If I was looking in the region of £40-£60, what would you suggest?

Thanks.

The soundcard you have chosen is a good choice and will sound way better than both your usb headset & onboard sound.

The best way to get around the constant unplugging of your speakers & headhones/mic would be to try and find a "plantronics audio switcher" This would allow you to have your speakers & headphones/mic connected at the same time & to change between them is a simple flick of a switch.

Other ways to keep both phones/speakers connected at the same time is to buy a card reader with phone jacks built in such as this..(out of stock here atm)

Else a case with front phone jacks (should a new case be on the horizon). Both of course connect to audio card via pins internally.

My Steelseries Merc Stealth keyboard also has audio jacks built in to save you reaching behind the pc but this of course still means switching around.

Ah, I didn't realise I could do this. I'll have to get my case's manual out (if I still have it)
