Nail biting conclusion..

..My nails are looking good again as I stopped biting them a while back. A terrible lifelong habit, not from stress or worry, just, well, a habit.

Today, I bought some stuff called Stop 'n Grow in the hope I don't go back to biting them. It tastes exactly as I imagined, bitter. And it does leave that bitter aftertaste for quite a while after. I'm not sure though if it'll completely cure me as I don't really mind the bitter after taste that much.

I dunno, I'll have to see how it goes. Anyone tried any particular product which is guaranteed to make you never do it again? Apart from a meat cleaver

The only way i've found is to clip them before they grow enough to actually nibble on.

I remember that stuff. My parents put it on my thumbnail when I was little to stop me sucking my thumb. It worked. It's horrid stuff.

I've tried to use it in the past. It's certainly a deterrent, but sadly I found it taints a lot of things - I couldn't eat my sandwich without it tasting of Stop N Grow and if had to be careful when cooking that I didn't touch the food with my hands, had to put gloves on. Bit of a pain in the end.

I've got a metal nail file in the drawer and if there's a rough edge to a nail or a tear, I file it till it's smooth again, that seems to help. Also, a pumice stone does the same thing.

I used to use the anti-biting stuff that tastes rank but soon didn't taste rank. Waste of money.

In the end I just grew up and stopped biting them.

I just stopped doing it one day, no real test of willpower involved or anything, just a conscious decision to not bother doing it anymore. Give it a try

I used to bite my nails badly and the only thing which stopped me was when I started ten pin bowling and joined a league. When I had nasty bitten nails, it hurt to bowl and so I said to myself "mate, stop biting your nails" and that was it, I did.

I've never done it since.
