Who's still on I7 1366?

I have no idea why intel abandoned the 1366 socket soo quickly as I love mine and won't be upgrading until I see a bottleneck with my gpu.

the 920 DO may, in time, be considered a suitable challenger to the Q6600 GO stepping CPU in the best value/ longest useful life CPU stakes (subject to everyone's personal opinion!). My DO has served me well @ 4ghz and may well stick with it for some time (although looking to upgrade to hex core - if only to satisfy the upgrade itch for a bit, don't actually find I need more speed/cores at the mo). The 2500K's and 2700K's that do 5ghz+ under reasonably cooling are tempting but don't think there will be much benefit when running games for some time from the extra speed (sill in the benchmark toping and 'e-peen' zone) and the expense of a whole new board and memory setup just does not justify the gains at the moment. Best save pennies for next gen GPU

Built my 2500k & Asus P8Z68-V/GEN3 yesterday. A few teething problems with an older hard disk that's gone a bit dodgy, but everything's up and running now. At stock, with a gtx580 it runs every game out there very sweetly at 1080p. BF3 plays beautifully with only deferred AA turned off. Not that there was any problem to begin with - the i7 860 was an awesome chip that probably would have lasted me another 1-2 years of uber gaming.

The overall outlay was €80. Considering I got an unlocked chip and plenty of upgrade options for next year I'm quite satisfied. I don't think there's any right or wrong answer to this; there probably aren't noticeable performance gains to going from 1366/1156 to 1155, but on the flip side, you can get off a dead platform for very little. I felt now was the right time to sell, and I was bang on - was shocked at the high demand for my old hardware when I put it up for sale. BF3 mania is on, xmas is coming, and there's massive demand out there for good second hand hardware.

Btw from a purely gaming point of view, I'd imagine x79 to be very poor value for money given what a cheap 2500k can do. I'd think twice unless you need the extra bells and whistles for some other purpose.

Still running my 920 and still very happy with it. I'll be watching IvyBridge when it arrives, but even then its not a sure thing that I'll upgrade.

Still on 1366, and recently aquired an SR2. I'm sure I'll end up on 2011 eventually but the price/performance for 1366 is still pretty good for rendering and dual 2011 sockets are going to be expensive for a while.

Yes, it is. A quadcore that clocks to 5Ghz+ that eats Intel own flagship 990X X58 at a third of the price is extremely good value.
A 2500k is value for money. 2600k/2700k have high diminishing returns for their value, thus are not really good value for money.

The 990x was never supposed to be considered for value, being a flagship model. Though it still holds its ground against SB when properly used.

I was actaully wondering if it was worth the upgrade but think I'm going to stick with my 920 for now, still have some room since its at stock atm due to the cold boot issues but can probably OC it again since its apparently fixed with a bios update.

And? There's *always* something around the corner dude, and for value for money I couldn't ignore the 2700k

Depends how far the "corner" is. Considering that the new X79 boards have already been pictured and are dated to be released this month I'd say that it's pretty much just around the corner. Something coming in many months isn't around the corner.

FWIW OP I'm still on C2Q and it's doing fine. For games I only need to upgrade the graphics card until the CPU starts becoming the bottleneck. So stick with your setup until the new gen comes along.

still on my x58 mobo and 920 cpu, think this has been the longest iove had a cpu and mobo only ever upgraded gfx which was at first 280 sli to 580 sli. plays stuff fine but am pondering on x79 stuff coming in. just hope if i upgrade i'll be happy with it.

I have a first gen i5 and all I feel I am 'missing out' on is Sata 3.
My board does have Sata 3, but it is very poo and not worth using.

I like the latest pc hardware as much as the next computer enthusiast, but there really is no point me upgrading!
