What makes the apache so expensive and wonderful then?

Appearance.

If you try out a dozen or so fan varieties you'll find that at X RPM the majority of fans will be producing the same airflow, pressure and thus the same cooling.

You really need to screw it up like Noctua with their horrible low noise no airflow designs to make a bad fan.

Noise varies depending on the bearings, motor and whatever fiddling they did with the shape of the fan blades.

From what I've heard the Apache fans sound exactly like any other standard fan at X rpm.

So yes, appearance. Like the look of it?

I think your right on this one. It looks alright however but it makes absolutely no difference as its wedged in between two heatsinks.
