I'm thinking of getting one the above - but cant decide.

Like the Sony as it has extra features like sweep, 7fps, faster focus (good for movie) etc.

Like the Canon as this what I had planned on getting, good camera and it has a flip out screen which the Sony does not have.

This would be my first dslr, can you help me choose? Will be using it mainly for Architectural shots, photos of models, family pics and vids, and landscapes.

If it wasn't for the video I'd say get a used 5d mkI, as it would be much better for all of the above.

Out of the two I'd say the Sony was the better camera if it has the same chip from the D7K, however not sure about lens choice compared to Canon.

I could never deal with the electronic viewfinder and SLT setup, go for the Canon or a Nikon D5100 to get a better sensor.

If video is a big want then the Sony is the better choice, full time phase detection AF during video is a massive gain over the consumer level Canon & Nikon's but as DP has mentioned though it does have an Electronic View Finder which some people hate.

This is compensated by the fact that Sony's implementation of live view is far far superior the Canon & Nikon systems.

It just depends how old school you are and how useful you think each cameras differing specs are.

For pure image quality though Canon and Nikon are the better choice particularly of you plan on doing any low light photography.

Id go canon just for the variety of lenses and accessories.

i think this should be the main reason to you, i have just bought the A65 and love it too bits, i upgraded from a sony so had a few lenses but am now finding it harder to get a wide angle for it.

The sony and its viewfinder isnt a problem for me, it even helps as night vision is improved (as its back lit and not using the light from the lense) and also means when wearing glasses i can see better, which is the only main reason i wanted a screen too.

Go to the local shop and use both, you might find all the comments about the viewfinder isnt that much of a problem and then you can make a fair choice.
