Some people think it's pefectly legal to run lights on a bike.

Just another reason for my opinion that a hard-tail mountain bike is the ultimate and most versatile form of self propelled transport.

+1. Giant XTC with slicks rider here and on some of the roads I go on, a road bike would get mangled wheels in no time.

Because the law doesn't say we have to. Why don't pedestrians that cross the road, horse riders and joggers that run on the road pay insurance?

Because walking, jogging and horse riding does not involve using a vehicle. Before you say a horse is a vehicle, it's not, it is a form of transport. A bicycle however, is a vehicle and the is no reason why they shouldn't be insured other than they aren't registered for road use like cars or motorcycles.

As for cyclists being dangerous - have you ever tried to cycle in a busy pedestrian area? They love to just walk out in front of you for no reason. Cars love to run lights and are far more dangerous than cyclists.

To be fair, the clue is in the zoning: Pedestrian. Get off your bike and walk it.

I wouldn't mind paying insurance for my bike to be honest. Can't see how it would work in a practical sense though.

I already do, as do several cyclists I know. Given the amount of uninsured drivers about, and how much my bike(s) cost, I can't afford to be in an accident with one and have to buy a new bike without insurance.

That guy has the most Annoying voice I've ever heard and I honestly don't understand why anyone wants to watch that tripe. Is it supposed to be funny? Give people a sense of superiority in the cycling world? What?

Yes, that's exactly why he makes the videos.

All about awareness, showing people how not to cycle.

I cycled a lot over the summer, trust me, motorist are more of a danger to the public than cyclists, every week I would have 2 or 3 close calls from cars pulling out or not even looking at junctions/lanes. I never jumped red lights, I have seen loads of cyclists do it but seen cars do it as well.

Plenty of bad cyclists out there but many more bad motorists out there.

Yeah I know a few who are self-insured. If you run into a car and damage it can the motorist claim off your insurance though? As that's what I think they're all harping on about.

My insurance covers public liability and third party insurance, which means they can claim off it, yes.

Got to pop out now and mow down a few cyclicts before lunch. BRB. lol

I nearly got run into by a cyclist coming round a corner on the pavement this morning. He looked utterly perplexed that he had to stop suddenly. Idiot.
