Hello all.

I'm hoping someone can help me out here.

Back in 2008 I ordered an "Ultima OC Complete 8800GT Intel Core 2 Quad "Q6600 2.40GHz @ QX6950+ 3.20GHz+ Quad Core Silent DDR Complete System". All is good except recently I upgraded the PCI-e graphics card and RAM and had to reset the CMOS to get it to play ball in the end. My CPU was overclocked to 3.20GHz and so was my 2GB of RAM to some increased value. Resetting the CMOS resulted in me losing all those overclock settings that were specified in the BIOS. I've had a play with increasing FSB, multiplexer, etc. but am a complete noob when it comes to overclocking and don't want to damage anything. There also seems to be a ton more options that should be tweaked and I don't know what they are.

I e-mailed overclockers and they said that unfortunately they don't have any record of these settings as the system is too old. They pointed me here in the hope that someone with the same system or knowledge might know.

I appreciate that with my increase in RAM (2GB to 4GB) that I may not be able to overclock that - I remember reading about a limitation when ordering, it was either 4GB RAM and no overclock or 2GB RAM and overclock. Anyway, my pain is with the CPU... I know it was at 3.20GHz before I got busy.

If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it.

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere. I have searched about in these forums already.

Cheers!
Tom

IP35. I can't seem to find anything in the Pheonix AwareBIOS CMOS Setup that relates to overclock profiles. :( The "optimised defaults" just resets to factory settings.

Cheers :)

p35-w627dhg-6a790a1ac-11 is the full name coming up in the BIOS

I am tempted to follow this but those voltages look a little high for what I've read elsewhere and I only want 3.20ghz.

Also I have 4gb ram now (2x2gb) - DDR2 (Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5C 4GB 800MHz C5 DDR2 Memory Kit 5-5-5-18) but I am not too bothered about overclocking this if it is CPU or RAM.

Thanks for any input in advance. :)

Can you get a picture of the list or note them down and paste here? Im sure someone will be a long with the same board :)

*Edit - Nevermind, found one on google. Try leaving the voltage on automatic for now and increase multiplier to get 3.2ghz and see what volts are on via CPU-Z

When you say increase multiplier do you mean change the current 9X to 10X and not touch the CPU Operating Speed? For example I could get to 3.2 ghz by doing 9X 355 or 356 I think?

Sorry, I meant the 'External Clock' (FSB). So used to saying change Multiplier when it comes to SandyBridge now! :p So yea, change the CPU Operating Speed.

I just changed the FSB to 356 (so 9x356 = 3204) and rebooted and no display gets outputted. I will have to reset the cmos again to get it back to default values. Do you think it could be to do with my new RAM and not allowing overclock? I had this issue when I first installed the RAM and graphics card other day and that is why I reset CMOS in end.

Do I need to change any timings/voltage on RAM first? Each time my over clock doesn't work I have to reset CMOS as no display out :(

What RAM is it (Just so i know its default voltage, probably around 2.1v anyway).

Put the vcore to 1.35V for now.
Leave PCI-E Freq on 100

Leave rest on default for now

The RAM is DDR2 (Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5C 4GB 800MHz C5 DDR2 Memory Kit 5-5-5-18, stock voltage is 1.8V.

Just reset CMOS, lemme try the vcore change now :)

Just realised that isnt your Image of your chip :p(says q6600). What is your stock voltage for the CPU?

*Edit - my bad, read the Original post wrong :D

These are the settings I have just changed based on what you said... I haven't committed them and restarted yet, want to double check ;o)

The DRAM Speed (CPU:DRAM) is pushed up to Default (DDR2-1068) in brackets (was Default DDRR2-816 before) when we up the External Clock Speed. Is this too much for the RAM? I am happy not to overclock the RAM if I can get the cpu sorted ;)

Ta for your help btw

Yea, the DRAM speed will be too high, where it says default. See if you can knock it down to around default 800mhz
