I'm looking to buy a netbook which I want to use for work.

As a fire alarm engineer it is very easy to get caught out by not having a manual for a particular fire panel.

What I'm looking to do is transfer/download fire panel manuals onto a portable device that can read pdf documents and create a comprehensive library of manuals.

I have looked at the spec of the Asus 1015PX which seems ok, is there anything else I should consider?

Im looking for a netbook too. This is what i have come up with so far.

Needs to be upgradable to 2gig RAM
Needs DDR3 RAM
Needs 1.66 with FSB of 667 MHz
Needs Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 3150

Ive been looking at the Toshiba netbooks simply because i trust the make over all others. But it seems people do a lot of moaning that they are slow but im not sure they are slower than any other netbook.

Ive been out to have a look at the netbooks in shops to get a feel of what they are like, again the Toshiba have the best feel for me. The Asus do have a sturdy feel to them and they are also a decent make.

There are so many netbooks out there its going to take me a while to work out which is the best one for the money i have.

I have a few copies (shop bought) of XP lying around so i may install that as soon as i get one, i hear Win 7 starter is a bit poop, but again not sure if it would be worse than xp home.

Sorry i cant help much.

I was just looking at the 1015PX vs 1011PX, they both have the same hardware apart from the harddrive. One youtube review says they have different processors but according to the Asus website they have the same.

Did you know of any differences between that and the 1011PX? I cant find any.
Also do you play any games on it? Ill be needing something to play really old RPG's, maybe even baldurs gate. I have seen counter strike running on one so it seems BG will run on it.

I've been using Windows 7 Starter on my 12" laptop (T5250, 2GB DDR2, GMA X3100) for around two weeks and I've only noticed two differences compared to Windows 7 Home Premium. Aero is missing as is the ability to change the desktop background.

What have you heard that causes you to consider XP over it?

Things about multi tasking and not being able to view videos.

Asus Eee 1015P owner here battery life from a 6 cell nice updated to 2 gig running better.
Happy as Larry

What speed RAM did you upgrade with? Cant find the details on the Asus website.

Not trying to pull the OP's thread off topic... hopefully he can learn something from my questions.

I still cant find any real difference with the 1011PX and 1015PX. Maybe the battery is different and the HDD, but is that all? £40 difference in the price.

Having a closer look at a seller the 1011 seems to have the N455 but the 1015 has the N570 processor.

Oddly enough the place where i found the above info says the 1011 has the N570 AND the N455, so im guessing they have got their facts wrong somewhere along the line and put both numbers down by mistake.

It seems there are a few sellers that state their 1011PX have the N570 CPU. Bit confusing. The Asus website says 'Intel® Atom™ N455/N570 Processor'

Just phoned the seller and they guaranteed me its a N570.

Just incase your still reading this thread. I ordered the 1015PX for £230. Its the red one because it was £20 cheaper than the white or black versions.
It seems to be a fairly top end of the basic netbooks. I will let you know how it goes, picking it up Thur or Fri. Ill also be getting a Corsair 2GB DDR3 1333MHz (1 stick) for about £9 to get the best out of it.

Windows 7 Starter is terrible, it only lets you use 3 apps at once, first thing I did when I got my netbook was whack Home Premium on it.

Personally, after my experience with my netbooks, a dell mini 10v (hackintoshed) and an Advent 4213. They're good for surfing the net, downloading on the go and my 4213 does play Red Alert 2 ok. But I would seriously considering getting a Macbook Air or a small Macbook Pro if I wasn't getting an iPad 2 for christmas
