Sold a 5770 on the bay the other day and just got this message:
the graphic card you sold me is defective. and needs to be returned back to you for refund. please can you call me on XXXXXXXXXXX to dicuss this matter

There was nothing wrong with the card when i sent it to they guy.

This was in the description:

Here is a Radeon HD 5770 perfect for your gaming needs, This card can run brand new games out with ease including the newly release Battlefield 3. This card has been tested and is in full working condition with original box and everything inside (excluding DiRT 3). This card has never been overclocked or reached any high temperatures.

PayPal Only,
UK Only,
No returns accepted.

Ask him what defects? Also point out your listing said no returns. He already admitted he received it so I don't think paypal will take your cash.

Did you get any proof of it working fine before you posted it? I always do that just incase anything pops up I'm armed for a dodgy buyers bs. Also note down serial numbers (if you took pictures you'll have them already) incase they try a buy and swap (saying card is defective and swapping it with one they already have that is broken).

Did you make note/take a picture of the serial number? Chances are he's gonna try and send you his duff one and make you take the hit..

Or he's just stuffed it up in the mean time :o

Ok I replied before posting this thread with, Also I should have a picture with there serials somewhere so i should be ok with that.

Ok, can you please explain to me how this card is defective?

I ran it for about a week straight and there have been no problems at all.

Please list me your full system specifications.

Yeah, I did when I first received it.
I have the picture somewhere but cannot find it.

So should I accept the return and test it?

This. Might give him some leverage to paypal for a refund.
You stated no returns and it was tested working.

I suppose it's harsh. However if you do return it then ask for pictures of the card before hand to make sure the serials are the same so he doesn't send you a different one.

What if he takes pictures of the one i sent him then returns a duff one? Where do i stand then?

This is why i dont deal on the bay -.-.

Serials still won't match :)

That is if you have a picture of the original serials.

Yeah it's a pita when things go wrong. Just got to make sure you keep all evidence for proof.

Yeah, same thing happened with me a few weeks ago with an HD4850. Sold for £38, sent with insured postage. Buyer claimed that there was liquid damage (wtf?!) and did that Paypal charge-back which makes it impossible to bail out of. Another example of being shafted on eBay and Paypal siding with the buyer. What's my odds of claiming on the postage insurance? (Royal Mail) - have got pictures of the 4850 before I sent it.

Too many of these threads pop up for comfort. I've just sold a monitor on the bay and luckily he's left positive feedback so doesn't look like a scammer as the feedback should protect me if he opens a case which seems unlikely.

Wrong. Customer bought a CPU off me 2 years ago. He left a positive. Then 3 weeks later, he filed an "item not as described" case against me and did the Paypal charge-back before I even had the chance to intervene. Beware!

I have a reply.

why would you run a card for a week if you did not think there was a problem! card ran for less than one hour and screen went fuzzy for few seconds this has happened five times in less than one hour. error message critical errors appeared. this is clearly a faulty card. i have a dell 420xps and have run a system test through dell site to make sure that my pc is in good order as this is still under warranty. if you look on dell site you will see the spec for this machine.

I need a reply guys.

That's why I always withdraw the money into my bank account before posting. Then if paypal want to give the buyer the money they can do it through their own pocket and then dispute it with me properly with the legal system and not their crappy way of glossing over important facts and messages in a dispute.

If the buyer didn't sign for it as damaged or not checked then probably not much chance. That postage insurance is only if it's lost or damaged like physically. If the outside package wasn't then they'll assume it was damage internally and not caused by them.

If he signed it like "Package Soaked" then maybe you'd have some ammo to claim against his supposed "water damage".

You'd run it for a week to make sure there aren't any intermittent or long term problems with the card (Buyer already sounds like an idiot to me). Those dell system tests won't really check system for stability like the proper tools do. Dell site says the PSU is 375W standard on a 420 XPS. Did the card have any PSU requirements?

Ask what are these cricial error messages. It's all very vague, I'd expect a detailed reply of how such faults occured. Has he cleaned out his old drivers? Etc etc.
